DoJ doesn't need congress to prosecute people. They need congress to impeach at the executive level. If evidence is released of actual crimes they will impeach, they will have no choice.

Yeah the surfer/skater talk was a goof more or less, Californians don't have an accent we just have mannerisms like hella and "the x".

I've met way more skaters that talk like the stereotypical Californian than surfers, so I'm not sure why surferbros get that stereotype attributed to them.

Yeah lmbo if anything is actually going to come of this. I sincerely think the average voter will, even/especially if WaPo and NYT keeps doing weekly/daily bombs, eventually get tired of hearing about the drat emails Russians and become even more apathetic, and the GOP very much doesn't want to impeach anyone so I wouldn't be surprised if there are efforts to try and use the committee to throw chaff and stall. If they support people who assault the press and call for violence against minorities now, I wouldn't be surprised that the tolerance levels will have shifted by the time the investigation is over that people in office will say "Trump got charged with obstruction but it's the liberals" and they wouldn't impeach.

But I also don't think very highly about the average American and am a raging rear end in a top hat pessimist.

They'll only impeach if there's a Democratic majority after 2018. At best, I can see the GOP going through the motions and "finding" the Trump administration and campaign as not guilty for colluding with Russia to cause dissension during the election or getting any favors if Trump got into office just to make it look like they tried.

Which now I wonder if Congress can attempt to impeach a President for the same crime more than once.

The best case scenario if Mueller drops a report tomorrow saying "Every single person in this administration met with the Russians and here's video of them all in a room with Putin helping hack the 2016 election to win" is Flynn goes to jail. They'll "make an example out of him" by giving him 20 years or something in a super kushy executive prison and then the GOP and admin will immediately wash their hands and say "well we got the Russian source! no one can complain anymore" and go back to gerrymandering so they stay in power.

Because lolnothingmatters

The point I am making is that it's not some demented alien psychology that us good men could never understand why some people prioritize some things over the environment. We all do it sometimes. Being environmentally conscious is weighing when you do or don't, not some state you would never ever put your needs over the environment. And it's not useful to paint certain people as some spooky "other" thinking some way that we could never fathom.

Ok cool I too have wanted things before therefore nothing anyone else wants could ever be stupid or insane or incomprehensible or absurd.

Actually I bet a sociologist could do a fascinating book or paper on SA or the Goonfleet forums. How the people on the forums aged and became more tolerant over time and stopped the unfunny ironic racism, sexism and homophobic-slandering as they aged and how new sites like reddit and voat appeared to fill the void. We've already seen reddit follow SA to a degree. It'll be interesting to see where it is in five years, and where voat is in five years.

I owe my avatar to some butthurt goon who objected to me calling out the not so "ironic" racism in the CFC. Ironically I only found SA due to EVE and the Goons there.I joined SA largely to learn about the people I was playing with and found a new home. I dicked around in allied corporations for a couple years then when I finally got into the Swarm I won EVE (Quit playing).I did get the pleasure of being there when we finally dunked Test which was great fun.

There seems to be something about having moderation that is focused on forcing people to actually support their arguments that is inimical to right wing politics so it doesn't surprise me that over time the forum has shifted left. Right wing arguments while seemingly sensible at first brush tend to fall apart under more intense scrutiny. Which is not too surprising given that Conservatives by their very nature aren't particularly creative so they tend to latch onto ideas that the left have already considered, potentially tried and subsequently abandoned.

I think in large part that the shift right of public attitudes in general can be largely attributed to the elimination of the fairness doctrine under Reagan, when the right gained the opportunity to spout their beliefs off without having to defend them against an informed opposition it allowed them to gain a lot of traction in the public mind space.

Another problem the left faces in trying to combat the right is that it takes more time, intelligence, knowledge and expertise to explain why they are wrong add to it the active campaign the right has engaged in against education and expertise and the left is at a structural disadvantage in political dialog.

The structure of how SA is moderated however lends itself to countering right wing arguments because insults aren't allowed to stand as arguments. At least that's my amateur cognitive science arm-chairing leads me to believe.

There is pretty good evidence that the public has responded to Trump and Russia, especially to Comey:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?ex_cid=rrpromo

Approval ratings were low, but after Comey they dipped a few points, and significantly, haven't gone back up. The foreign trip significantly hasn't made his ratings go back up.
I think that the last few weeks has permanently damaged his brand for a few people: rather than being a deal maker and wheeler-dealer, he is seen more as someone without self-discipline or the way to interact with others.

Things mattering isn't all or nothing. We have seen a lot of things happen already: a drop in approval, criticism from office holders (even muted), and a willingness to block or delay legislation. As well as to hold up appointments: remember that there was enough opposition to force I think three or four cabinet secretaries to withdraw.
