Not a problem compared to the waves of ~80 degree air coming off the engine of a motorbike, the rain was actually fairly welcome. Some may mock bikers but when climate change really hits and all of Britain is a Mad Max hellscape we're the only ones who aren't going to be dying of heatstroke. I own one leather jacket and while it is quite waterproof even wearing it open I sweat like a tory in a primary school even in winter.

Pochoclo posted:What the hell is this "allotment" thing I keep reading in this thread? I mean, from what I can google, it's some kind of piece of land you get where you grow stuff, but does the government lease it for free or what? The Wikipedia article is not very clear on this other than "low rent". Councils own them and it usually costs £40-100 per year depending where you live, a full size plot is 250sq metres.

staberind posted:While this is true, unless something radical happens, the coming generations will be used to the idea of zero privacy. Obviously Google Glass didn't last, but wearable tech is still a big thing, and people are already voyeuristic and narcissistic enought to be livestreaming everything, all of them time, and for it to have an audience. All it's going to take is a few more years - maybe a decade - of tech development and I think we're going to start seeing cheap and discreet wearable cameras all over the place, livestreaming poo poo constantly, and it's going to be a massive issue for personal privacy. In the last year I've seen a few stories addressing the trend of living in environments of constant surveillance like "dazzle camo" makeup and hair styles, and "anti surveillance clothing". Obviously these are designed to highlight the debate around facial recognition in particular, rather than to be functional, everyday solutions, but it's a really interesting issue, and it feels like we're on the cusp of it becoming a major factor in society. I don't think people are now, or will ever be, ready to give up on the notion of personal privacy.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/ng-interactive/2017/jun/02/the-guardian-view-on-our-vote-its-labour Somehow this is more shocking than Farage's endorsement. OwlFancier posted:I own one leather jacket and while it is quite waterproof even wearing it open I sweat like a tory in a primary school even in winter. Fashion leather jackets are often just top-grain backed or even coated with PU, so they're much easier to take care of, lighter, and waterproof. A proper bike jacket will be full-hide and uncoated (and usually vented) so even though they're much heavier they're much more comfortable in warm weather, but need careful care taken of them especially if you get them wet.

I say this every time anybody mentions it, but the grim cyberpunk future already happened. We're living in it. State hackers are rigging elections, robots are stealing everybody's jobs, I'm jacked into the metaverse poo poo-talking about politics right now, and within a few clicks you can buy NSA-made malware with buttcoins, and browse wikis full of of state secrets stolen by teenage hackers. William Gibson gave an interview a few years ago and he was like "cyberpunk ahaha oh man what was I thinking??" and I was utterly bemused because the cyberpunk future happened, it's here, it's just a crap, boring, grey one with none of the style.
