Pilger is credible for the most part, but Counterpunch lets itself down by frequently giving voice to conspiracy cranks. He'd need to be published in a tabloid before the media would raise the story properly.

Counterpunch does publish some good stuff, and Patrick Cockburn has some of the best work I've ever read about the west's wars in the middle east (and he gets published in the Independent as well). But yeah, they have a lot of contributers and just because Counterpunch publish it doesn't mean it's accurate, I always make sure I check the credibility of the writer in question. But their heart is def in the right place.

a pipe smoking dog posted:one of my mates was calling him a fascist earlier, is there anything in that? pilger has been up to some dodgy denialism wrt the former yugoslavia and rwanda he built his post-Cold War career on his east timor documentary and wound up cheerleading the Australian intervention on it when the Suharto regime crumbled for unrelated reasons, which was actually transparently in the Australian mining and geopolitical-hegemony interest; this at the same time whilst making a lot of really wild accusations about NATO intervention in Bosnia. a lot of leftists readily noticed the ideological tension

It would be a spectacular return to form for an outright lie by Laura Keunsberg to end up costing Labour a significant amount of support right before the election. And people wonder why journalists misleading people provokes such anger.

Papers are starting to come out with their official endorsements: So far: Sunday Times: Conservatives Guardian: Labour (strongly so) Economist: Lib Dems (but reluctantly so) FT: Conservatives (but doesn't like May) Sunday papers are all Tory except Sunday Mirror which is Labour. The rest of the dailies haven't formally endorsed yet. I'll be interested to see The Times (they don't always endorse the same as Sunday Times), as they've been pretty critical of May recently (although I suspect they'll revert to type and back her anyway).
