MGSV is a great game but some of the problems I have with it seem like they shouldn't exist in a game made in 2017.

Like being able to have more than one save.

Or being able to turn off the background music, or at the very least adjust volume levels (pant pant pant pant pant pant pant pant pant).

(I play on PS4).

GTX 1070 then. It'll offer you room if you ever move to a 1440p. If you ever intend on maybe hooking the pc up to a 4k monitor--tv or otherwise, look for a GTX 1080. You can find used ones in the 400 dollar range.

If anyone tells you to get a 1080 for a 1080p monitor, ignore them.

As for more recommendations: SeaSonic is a no brainer for PSUs. I have a 550w one powering my GTX 1080/i5 setup going to a 1440p monitor.

As for processors, an i5 is extremely capable for gaming. The k-variants shouldn't be egregiously more than non-k meaning you can overclock easily for 20-30 bucks more. Asus and Asrock are go to motherboard brands as well.

Pushing pixels isn't all that a video card does so this seems like a weird piece of advice. It might work as a rule of thumb for good performance in the current crop of games but there will always be new ones coming out that have fancier effects and other stuff going on.

I would just say that AMD stuff might be tempting for the cost savings but it will cause a lot of hassles with incompatibility issues and performance problems that may or may not get fixed in game patches.

What usually ages quick relative to other pieces of hardware? Can I expect to replace my video card more often than anything else? What's the life cycle on models/technology these days?

Basically I'm asking if it would make sense so splurge a little in some areas rather than others (video card was mentioned already).

Nothing matters for performance nearly as much as the GPU. CPU comes in at a distant second, though it can have a more dramatic difference depending on the game. Memory capacity is important but memory is cheap and memory speed doesn't matter a whole lot.

Video card goes faster than most components. One could reasonably expect to get 2-3 years of performance out of a video card before needing to upgrade. I'm unaware of what an idea is doing this year. The 1070/1080 are a year old to the month at this point. If there's a 1170 or whatever, I'd go with that if you have the money.

Processors can go 5-7 years honestly. Every year they become a little more efficient in power and a little faster but barring a revolutionary design, they stay good value for a while.

RAM is ram. Buy 8-16gb depending on use case. Storage is however much bukakke porn/video games/pirated movies you keep around. Buy an SSD for the primary drive. As big as you can afford.

PSU's are good for 4-6 years I'd say. Upgrade when needed.

Don't listen to Reddit retards talking about bottlenecking. CPU usage varies dramatically from game to game and most trend towards the low side. The only game I experience bottlenecking on with my 6600k and 1080 Ti is Battlefield 1, and I don't really care because I still get 120 fps maxed out at 1440p.

I have an ASUS GTX 1060, 16gb (2x8gb), and an i5 6500 build. It ended up costing $611 and I bought everything but the case, keyboard, mouse, and monitor during last Black Friday. I can run Doom(with Vulcan) 2016 and Overwatch in ultra settings at above 144. I hadn't built a computer in like 2008, so those are the only "newer" games I've played through since I'm playing a lot of older games my lovely old build couldn't get playing at a reasonable frame rate.

Nvidia cards overclock really nicely too, so a midrange card has a lot more value than the highest end one.

Oh, and Cole, as for tips on doing the actual build, read the manuals. My god. I lost a lot of time trying to get the first boot because my ram was in slot 1 and the motherboard needed the stick in slot 2.

Exactly. Buy a card to drive your monitor's resolution with overhead. That "with overhead" part is where people can read too far into and buy like a Titan X for a 1080p monitor.

Like it's ok to turn down settings. poo poo like ultra quality shadows and other settings an kill performance with negligible visual improvement. That's my philosophy anyway, and I'm positive someone disagrees with me here.

I'd rather buy a 300-400 dollar card and upgrade every few years while flipping the card for some cash.

Freesync/gsync is also super cool and not entirely flawless. Fallout 4 gives me fits on my gsync monitor. That's one game where I have to lock it to 60.

A grand will get you a very solid gaming PC that doesn't really need to make any major sacrifices, and is an excellent base to upgrade on when the time comes. The most expensive upgrade you will ever need to make will be buying a new mobo/ram/cpu if some groundbreaking poo poo that forces an upgrade comes out (this will never happen) or your power supply shits itself and takes everything with it (don't buy chinese firecracker power supplies)

I don't know but if I want to build a train (whereas a train is defined as two train engines and 4 cargo wagons) ore drop-off with two train stops for Iron, copper and coal it would have to be around 13 tiles tall and 78 tiles wide. That way it will accommodate 8 blue belts of ore (1 belt per wagon), two trains per line, 4 trains and 4 mine outposts. Oil and uranium lines will be a bit different. Oil can be compact as I can just pump everything elsewhere. For uranium I use a train different system of one train, a cargo wagon and fluid wagon, so it will be more compact.

This is pretty much what I came up with, and it will do just about anything. The processor/mobo choice is really a matter of personal choice because you can get equivalent intel performance for a few dollars more.

I picked the rosewill full atx case because I have big clumsy hands and like to have lots of room to work, and for what it offers it is quite cheap and very well made.

The CM Hyper 212 EVO is a really good cooler, like ridiculously good, it has no right to be as good as it is and be as cheap as it is, it is competitive with a lot of the starter self contained watercooling blocks that cost 4x as much.

Optical drive just is there to exist. You will need one to install a lot of the drivers for a lot of your computer bits, and then you can rip it out or keep it.
