they're suppressing it. They're suppressing everything about it. Corbyn's going to be attacked for mentioning it.

Amber Rudd is the current home secretary and former secretary of state for energy and climate change, the climate change position being dissolved. She's famous for occasionally getting wheeled out as a punching bag when the PM can't be arsed to show up for cameras, regardless of whether or not her dad had died that week. And not cheese (ty ange).

It might pick up some steam if Corbyn's 'we have to look at Saudi Arabia'/the buried report stuff gains some traction. Honestly it seems like right now the news is mostly all about the terrorism (also Laura K implying Corbyn was first to resume campaigning and Theresa May will start tomorrow)

It's a super super utopian/early SU idea which, er, really doesn't seem to be backed up by any actual existing socialism. Also let an Eastern European serial killer keep killing for years because supposedly it was a symptom of capitalism society and so all these deaths couldn't be related to one another.

Well yeah, but then what's the answer if not coppers? I'd be the first to suggest that a decent society would have significantly lower crime and all but there's still going to need to be some sort of organized force for stopping criminals.

Amber Rudd is the Home Secretary. Bit like a combination of the DoJ and Homeland Security. She's getting called out over the repeated terrorist attacks lately that come despite the PM saying that arms exports to Saudi protect us from such things.

Yeah Amber Rudd isn't just some nobody, she's the home sec and was for a long time considered a possible future leader. Whether that's still the case is another question. Also those Liz Truss videos are amazing and never won't be.

Clearly the Tory strategy of "don't do anything that anyone will remember until we call another election so nobody will have anything against us" was being executed perfectly, until they had to actually do a campaign.

It's a really complex issue, but as a starting point i think it's important to look at existing police forces in the context of their role as the special coercive arm of states build around a capitalist society, and recognise the that model basically isn't applicable to a hypothetical society in which the economic basis of society is socially owned.

Any entity existing for the purposes of public order would be absolutely different, from top to bottom for a start any organisation like that would need to be genuinely answerable to society - which the modern police effectively isn't unless compelled to be so by massive public pressure.

I'm crawling into bed now because im loving old as heck and need my 7.5 hours, but this is a really interesting subject and hopefully when there aren't 10,000 other major events ongoing we can have a good talk about it in the thread.

it's a bullshit right of review and refusal of publications by bodies they pay, one of the legal or policy people itt would be able to better describe exactly what it does. A bunch of campaigns and charities attacked it, then it arrived and now nobody knows how many people are dying in prisons or after benefit sanctions

answers to those questions and others that don't spring to mind as quickly have to be found by private concerns, which presents a fukken challenge

Certainly not, but a great deal of crime is due to factors like poverty, drug policy, immigration policy, foreign policy and any number of other policy frameworks that are part and parcel of a capitalist nation-state. The form crime would take in a society that is sincerely and credibly committed to the ideal of common ownership and mutual aid would be markedly different from what occurs in our currently existing conditions. There's nothing to suggest a hypothetical society which is horizontally self-organised cannot formulate a response to such matters. For an existing example of how that could work I suppose you can look at anti-fascist organisations stepping into the void left by the state's reluctance to confront open fascist organisation.

I'm not really sure that antifa is a good model for, say, investigating murders, which seems like one of the categories of crime that can't be almost eliminated in a socialist/anarchist society. Not to say that there's no solutions other than a slight variation on current policing, of course.
