Corbyn is doing a rally at the safe Labour seat of Gateshead.

May is doing a rally at the safe Labour seat of Bradford South.

Not if the votes are coming from SNP to Labour. This is why as much I was like to vote Labour. I can't really take the risk of spliting the vote where the Tories can come in. Plus it dosen't help that the Scottish Labour candidate is nowhere near our consistency.

Tories went backwards in that poll too though.

I agree though, I'd like to vote Labour here but my candidate is garbage.

Edit: If you look at those numbers alone, Labour is gaining from Lib Dems, SNP and some Tories. To me this really hurts the Tory positioning of the new second party of Scotland but we'll see if it bears out I suppose.

If anyone wants to see an explanation as to why the SNP gained so much on Labour in the last few years...
Bonus points for seeing how far it is in the broadcast before something not reserved to or about Holyrood comes up.

Thankfully I have a Campaign for Socalism candidate in my ward otherwise there's no way you could vote for this garbage.

Yeah, I mean I know it's not necessarily the ideal to which bright-eye humanities undergrads aspire, but from what I see at work the amateur local and family historians seem to be the least stressed and enjoying it the most. There's an awful lot of history out there that isn't big event and great man type stuff. It can be genuinely interesting, and from what I've seen you can often convince some local historical society to at least cover costs if you're prepared to work on something part time - that way you can get you a foot in the door of a lot of archives and historical sites and engage with history in a really engaging way.

We have a working relationship with the local university and every year they send a handful of undergrad history students to us because they say they wanna be archivists. Every year I see those poor little lambs get their dreams crushed when they realise that archives isn't sitting around in leather armchairs, poring over gorgeous and fascinating old tomes and exchanging historical witticisms across the office.

Not really.

Corbyn wants big crowds, to look better on TV. Best place to get them is a safe Labour seat.

May can't draw a crowd anywhere, and doesn't care to because her 'rallies' are all party activists. So since it doesn't matter where she goes, it's better for the media to report her as campaigning in a safe Labour seat.

Gateshead rally was good, despite being wetter than Pissflaps at a new Yougov poll. Lots of talk about pushing the political conversation with mates/family/people on the street, lots of YOOFS there getting into it.

It's more or less this. He doesn't test brilliantly with audiences. Also traditionally parties try for the most part to keep Chancellors out of the lime light during elections as they have a tendency to be the most unpopular with the population, and any off the cuff comment they make is seen as a sign of potential treasury policy going forward. Hammond did like 2 appearances for the Tories and both times it ended up causing them problems.

At this late stage I think it helps to have footage of your leader giving inspiring speeches to massive crowds, especially if you're going up against a charisma vacuum like Theresa May. The alternative would be for him to go campaigning in a marginal, which do you reckon is more useful at this point?

Also interesting, YouGov's 95% confidence interval now only consists of Labour gaining seats.

Pissflaps posted:

You did ask what people thought. I'd be very impressed if there was a way of measuring the effect of rallies vs. whatever else Corbyn could be doing tonight.

If you want to win an election then campaigning in marginals is more useful than campaigning in seats you hold with a 15,000 majority.
