I've been told that a bunch of older leave voters in Cheshire and the surrounding countryside are all voting Labour because they think May has bottled it and is throwing the election to get out of finishing a50. Plus the whole Manchester bombers being possible mi5 assets against Gaddafi has them seriously pissed off. They're even talking about joining unions.

Maybe the tories are trying to throw it so brexit will always be 'labour's brexit' and the economic problems it causes 'labour's economic problems.'

Apraxin posted:Me and my wife were living in a third country when we got married, so the wages we were earning there didn't even count. I'd have had to move back to the UK, find a job that paid the required amount (haven't checked recently, but I think it's still set at about or slightly over the national median income), work there at least a year, and then maybe I could have applied for her to move to the UK. They could still have rejected the application though. May is the only politician in this country that when I see them I'm overwhelmed by visceral anger and loathing. Every goddamn year she's introduced new loving bullshit to kick even skilled, relatively well-off people out of the country to appease the racists. And also, presumably, for her own sick amusement, because poo poo like the 'Go Home!' vans was so unconscionable that I can't imagine she'd have done it just for votes, she honestly just hates immigrants of all stripes. The immigration system in this country is just disgusting at this point, thanks to her. It costs ridiculous amounts of money, is way over-the-top about documentation requirements, we have to pay extra for the NHS despite already paying taxes and national insurance toward services we're legally barred from using (and despite being statistically healthier and far less likely to seek benefits than British citizens), and if you miss a document or misspell a word or they just don't like you they'll keep ALL your fees and tell you to gently caress off. This just happened to a colleague of mine, who's now out nearly £7k because he applied for his visa two days early. Theresa May is a truly awful politician, policy-maker, and human being.

Fun fact, if you're applying for citizenship, you must have been physically in the UK 5 years ago exactly on the day of the application. I know someone who has lived here for 14 years and got rejected because she was on holiday 5 years prior on the date she applied.

Theresa May why does explicitly stating that human rights laws must be ignored for dealing with terrorists - seem like a good idea for you to express?

Worth noting that Balfour is seen as a hero and a traitor in Israel, often by the same people. so that's interesting. This is what me and throsilver were discussing last week about how it's very convenient for Israel to conflate zionism and Judaism so any criticism of Israel is automatically antisemitic and the left historically doesn't do very well with Jewish people so it's not always easy to tell which one it is regardless. Maybe they should have given her tiny Bibi earrings instead.

An interesting note on Survation's polling. They're the only polling company not to have changed their methodology since the 2015 election which you might think doesn't bode well for Labour. However, their final poll for the 2015 election suggested the Tories would get 37% and Labour would get 31% which they didn't publish because it was so off base compared to everyone else that they though it was wrong. Just throwing that out there for you people suffering from excess hope.

Random question - does the party name on the ballot have to be the actual official name of the party? I ask because I assume it's set at registration time, when they were pushing the "Theresa May's Team" line really really hard, and having 40 million ballot papers with that on it would be hilarious given what's happened in the last month.

If the Tories lose because enough people couldn't find the Tory/Theresa May option and voted for something else/didn't vote, that'd be amazing. I doubt it's widespread enough for that to really matter, but even as a minor factor in the Conservatives suffering worse results than expected... I would love that so much.
