Press release from Kimberly Ellis's campaign:

Bauman Refuses Request for Independent Forensic Audit

OAKLAND, Calif. (June 2, 2017): Eric Bauman has rejected the request by the Ellis campaign for an independent forensic audit, which was formally submitted for consideration on Tuesday through legal counsel. While the Ellis campaign's review of the ballot is ongoing, initial inspection uncovered alarming discrepancies and an amassing of ineligible voters to change the outcome of the election, warranting a call for an independent expert to intervene and validate the vote.

Because of the magnitude of the concerns, the Ellis campaign firmly believes any allegation raised should be accompanied by verified evidence from a credentialed, independent professional. The Ellis campaign recognizes that their position is not impartial and have requested that an outside independent firm step in and conduct a complete forensic audit so that the voting delegation has confidence in the neutrality of the assessment.

Kaufman Legal Group, which jointly represents Eric Bauman's campaign and now the California Democratic Party, was provided specific requests, including a formal legal demand for preservation of records. The Ellis campaign continues to seek an inclusive and collaborative remedy to validate the election outcome. Should their efforts towards reconciliation not be returned, the Ellis campaign reserves its right to seek remedy in other venues.

As per the CDP's Bylaws, the ratification of any officer race is subject to challenge, and no certification can take place until the challenge is resolved. As such, the Ellis campaign requested that an interim Chair serve until the election is certified. Bauman refuted this interpretation and instead has claimed his authority to serve as Chair.

"Eric's rejection of an independent forensic audit is well beyond troubling. If everything was done on the up-and-up, what is there to hide?," said Hilary Crosby, immediate past Controller of the CDP. "We're the largest Democratic Party in the country; are we really saying we don't know how to run a fair, transparent and impartial election, where the outcome is not in question? Instead of calls for unity, we should be calling for truth, because if we can't agree on the facts, how can we agree on how to move forward."

To add to this, at the convention they actually called it early for Kimberly. Apparently she was far enough ahead that they were telling people she won (not just her people, the counters from what I understand), and it changed at the last minute. Everyone was really taken aback. Hilary Crosby is also held in high esteem by everyone in the party. In light of this I wouldn't be surprised if there was genuinely fuckery going on.

Edit: my sources for this being me, since I went there

You should see the Facebook group for CaDem Delegates. It's a loving bloodbath right now.

Bauman supporters keep trying out "How many recounts do we need? Why can't you just get past this, WE NEED UNITY"

While Ellis supporters are pissed as gently caress.

Doesn't help that a large amount (not all, but a large amount) of the vocal Bauman supporters are white and a decent percentage of Ellis supporters are minorities because those tensions are flaring now.

Yeah next time the prosecutor will just have to be less of a dumb liar:

quote:

The prosecutor said he removed the woman because she said she was unaware of gang activity in her town. That view, the prosecutor told the court, could be problematic because one of the defendants admitted he was a gang member in that town.

But the California Supreme Court said the prosecutor had examined the woman only briefly and his questions did not reflect any such concern.

Nah that was the SF LAN thread, I brought it up a month ago asking if anyone else suffered Alameda County's insanely aggressive jury scheduling year after year almost exactly on the dime summons or I was just really unlucky

By hey enjoy, it's kind of fun as long as you get fully paid by employer/public or if you are poor just get a short 1day civil trial and not multi week long criminal one. Everyone should experience and do it at least once in their life as an eye opener into partly how hosed and simultaneously good the justice system is

I think i'm at 4 for 5 years now (though most of the first year I was still registered in Sonoma) and called in three. The worst is if you get sent to the god drat Hayward Court (unless you live in that area of course). Getting sent down from North Berkeley is an utter bitch since 880 is the worst freeway, or do what I did and take BART and transfer on a kind of lovely unreliable long AC ride over to the court eating up almost 2 hours a day. The Oakland Court is nicely accessible though being right by the Lake Merritt stop though

Yeah as mentioned in that thread I was 3 summonses for 3 years in Alameda county (every 365 days on the dot), albeit without ever actually getting called in. It was very satisfying when I was going to be living in a different county by the time the third one was scheduled. I lived in south Berkeley and they were always scheduled against the Oakland courthouse.

I've only had one summons in the 4 1/2 years in San Mateo county since then, again without being called in.

Ahn's main healthcare priority was making it possible to sell insurance across state lines, and when pressed for his opinion on sanctuary cities he responded with a real weak "well i think thats for the courts to decide" kind of answer which is not acceptable for a district with the demographic makeup of CA-34

Gomez was also a co-author on SB 562. By any policy measure, he's pretty far to the left, but in the primary a lot of the Sanders groups opposed him because his endorsements made it seem like it was a party coronation.

Once he won the primary and advanced to the runoff with Ahn, they ended up lining up behind him because again, he's really liberal from a policy standpoint.
