Maybe because the special counsel investigation outweighs this one, so he'd rather give the juicy stuff to them behind closed doors?

I don't think he can decide what he'd rather do when it comes to questions from Congress. I think he has an obligation to answer the question unless he has a specific legal basis to refuse.

When folks talk about "no young democrats coming up the ranks", why is there no mention of former WA governor Christine Gregoire or current governor Jay Inslee? I'm not saying that there isn't a problem within the party, it just seems odd that since there is, these folks are generally being ignored.

They're talking like they think they can get to 50. I think you've got to assume they're correct until there's a reason to believe otherwise. But I think that even if they don't think they can get to 50, they may just need to get an answer one way or the other if they do and move on.

This is lining up with the news that Trump is becoming frustrated with the media and his own staff's abiliity to deliver the message that he wants to deliver, so he'll be using Twitter to do it directly.

This is the opening of the bloodgates where Trump thinks he's delivering his purest message.... and he does :getin:

This is wrong and has been explained before. Again, even though the Senate said they will write their own bill, they technically still have to vote on the house bill. What they will do is vote on an amendment that will literally rip every single word out of the house bill and completely replace it with their amendment. It will still be technically voting on a bill passed by the house, but not really because the amendment will have completely re-written it.

We might get it confirmed that Trump pressured him to drop the Flynn thing. But everyone here seems to be expecting he's going to arrive with a "Trump's links to Putin" dossier and a copy of the piss tape. My impression of Comey is that he is in love with his own righteousness and wants to defend that over every other consideration.

There's a pretty big gulf between the two Washingtons. There's a lot of physical distance, and the state isn't big enough to command attention in spite of that like California can.

The specific candidates aren't particularly strong, either. Gregorie is very smart, policy-focused, and a good legal knife fighter, but her "whip up a crowd" charisma is practically nonexistent. She is political broccoli: everybody knows it's the right choice, but very few people get excited about it. Inslee is kind of the opposite; he's friendly and reliably liberal but not the policy brain that Democrats probably want to put up in contrast to Trump. (In fact, he's a bit of a departure from the typical WA approach of "vote for the biggest nerd" - if it weren't for the toxicity of the national Republican party, we'd probably have Governor Rob McKenna right now)

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Bob Ferguson. He's not going to run for president in 2020 or anything, but he's been getting national attention with his legal challenges to the Trump administration, and he's ambitious in a nerdy, chess-club-president kind of way. He's personally frugal to a fault, too. He'd make a pretty good anti-Trump.

In this case, couldn't (in theory) the House just always pass a generic "BLAH BLAH BLAH REPLACE TEXT HERE" bill and let the Senate rewrite it in all instances? Why even bother spending time writing a legitimate bill in the first place?
