ANIME IS FOR ADULTS
The movie shows she can be hurt but that she heals rapidly. She didn't take a real hit from a bullet afterward. Everything either hit her armor or she deflected it, and we are meant to believe that her armor is also super strong since it was housed in the same tower as that sword and lasso.

Right. DCEU Diana is not impervious to bullets like the way Superman is, which is why she uses her shield and gauntlets. The film implied she heals fast though. Amazons are like Tolkien Elves in that regard; they possess immortality, can survive injuries that would probably kill a normal human, but they can also be slain.

We see Diana get a flesh wound from gunfire, so we know she can be injured. But yeah, she's the only Amazon in the DCEU who has superhuman strength, pseudo-flight/superjumps, and can harness lightning/energy because she's the daughter of Zeus. Though like other Amazons, she can be killed.

[edit] spoilered that just in case I guess?

I thought one of the more effective parts of the film was the first Amazon getting shot by the bullet during the beach battle. Not having seen any trailers or knowing much about WW or DC, I was expecting the Amazons to rout the Germans. But it was a very interesting way of encapsulating the war as a whole -- the old ways are being crushed. Particularly given that the film had talked them up as being super warriors made by the Gods to protect man.

Were the old ways getting crushed? For every Amazon that got killed they must have killed three Germans with their LOTR skills.

Yeah, but that's peope who've spent a lifetime training vs random Germans, who can easily be replaced by more Germans.

Did the movie show the German marines trying to get away/back out to sea? Or is this yet another movie fight where some random unit fights to 99% casualties instead of running away?

Their ship was listing bad in the background, I think it hit a rock on the way in. Not that surprising when getting that close to an island not on the charts that just popped up out of no where.

So, it was Paradise Island or bust.

I really, really enjoyed the film, but drat if that first trench scene didn't take me out of things. Just like Captain America's shield, it was a little too silly to accept that every single German would be using machine guns on the exact same point of an indestructible shield. Aim a little lower guys, you would have won. :v:

Some bullets are shown ricocheting off her boots. Obviously, we're meant to assume she's adequately protected by the shield and armor. Given the ending, you may also assume supernatural shenanigans.

Same thing for Cap's shield painted like a target. Wonder Woman's shield kinda functions the same; a bright and shiny object to direct attention toward. If you wanna get nerdy, she's fast enough to maneuver her shield to wherever the German soldiers were aiming anyways. And she was clad in Amazon armor so yeah. The No Man's Land scene owns because it's pinnacle superhero courage and defiance on display. She becomes a paragon fighting for those who can't in that moment, and inspires others to do the same.

Smaller target. :colbert:

But naw, not a massive issue or anything. Shields are just a lot more noticeable for me in these films - I subconsciously accept armour and stuff when it's a body suit. Handsome men and women in small outfits protected by a shield, not so much.

Thematically a woman charging into no man's land and wrecking fools is amazing, but the cgi zoom shot at the beginning was so bad it took me right out of it. Lots of the cinematography was shockingly ugly

She's a demigod. The half god part is why she has the power to slay a god. But she's also part Amazon and clearly can be wounded. If she were immune to bullets like Superman, she wouldn't bother with the shield or gauntlets.

If she weren't immune to bullets she'd just explode into a cloud of gore when walloped by doomsday or some flying debris. it's pointless to consider the physics of this poo poo because everything you're seeing is roughly equally impossible, inasmuch as there's no such thing as "more impossible"

There was a fair bit where the green screening felt a bit weird. The final jump at the camera felt especially odd, like she was completely detached from the rest of the screen. That said faintly conspicuous CGI comes with the territory. :v:

Also I'm fairly sure I killed the final dude in a Dark Souls game.

Happy Noodle Boy

The way I took it is that she was capable of being hurt by bullets and poo poo up until she "awoke" the God half of her after Trevor died. Which is why the immediate combat after that where she basically clowns the German troops in slow-mo in a not-so-bloody-ripoff from Immortals is so different from No Man's Land. She's much much powerful at that point and now (after beating Ares) she's as powerful as she can be (or maybe she gets another boost in the sequel if its set in the past).

The correct answer. Like all comic book characters her powers vary all the time depending on who's writing that year and whatever. If one really wanted to give it a general defining, the way it'd often be described for DC characters vaguely similar to her is that "small arms/earth weapons are just a nuisance." So unlike Superman our technology can still, like, have inertia on her and knock her down and she'd feel the stuff hitting her, it just won't actually hurt her in any real way that matters.

There's also a belief component, it seems. Diana's way less capable of superhuman poo poo until she convinces herself otherwise. She struggles to climb that tower until realizing she can bash right into the side, and she's injured on the beach but clearly can do godlike combat poo poo towards the end of the movie.

I suspect she *wasn't* bulletproof but is now. If for no other reason, because of Superman power creep so she can fight Doomsday or Darkseid or whoever.

No! We must understand the lore like the goony nerds we are. She doesn't explode into a cloud of blood dust when punched or thrown into a concrete wall at super speed by Doomsday because she's a demigod. Achilles in Greek myth was a demigod and the dude still died :colbert:

[edit]

Tenzarin posted:

It's revealed she is the offspring of Hippolyta (not a god) and Zeus (a god) in the film — it's her New 52 origin, where Hippolyta lied to Diana about her birth, saying she was born from clay, but in truth she is the natural born daughter of Zeus, carried to birth by the Amazon Queen. According to Greek myth, that makes her a half-god. A demigod. Part Amazon from her mother's side, part god from her father's side.
