Now it's so over complicated that far from the magic free market introducing efficiencies by some power of faith its hosed it up so hard its made it worse. In the train thread there's is a diagram you really need to look at. Also it was a great provider of state-funded outdoor bathrooms for the working man on the go. Edit: I do remember British Rail, in its declining years even. I don't remember it being any worse than now.

The trouble this year is that I think the increase in labour polling over the last 4 weeks means despite losing, the party will stick with Corbyn. That would be fine, and I can get on board with him. But the moderates just can't, the majority of the young can't be arsed to vote, and there'll be Tory victories until he goes.

Oxford also has a fairly large working class area in Cowley, there's a car plant there. And even within the ancient universities - it's not wall to wall Tory toffos, you know. Maybe a third are posh and I assume Tory voters, who tend to keep to their own kind; the other two thirds are pretty much just normal students, which means they vote Labour if they vote at all. Source: I went to New College, Oxford 1995-98 and I remember the 1997 election. The JCR had about 50 of us watching the election on satellite cheering on every Labour gain and like two sad little twats in the back half heartedly cheering the occasional Tory hold.

Ideal outcome (barring a Labour coalition:) He is unable to make a coalition by <10 seats, PLP tries to topple him (again,) he is reelected with an even larger margin and through pure osmosis of people hearing snippets of what he says, the fact that he isn't as bad as media/PLP is trying to paint him will get through.

My Labour MP in my old constituency used to do this, for every election. Absolute legend. I'm personally hoping the labour left can wrest control over the leader nominating process like they're trying to and put up someone decent and younger to replace Corbyn. I like corbyn but he does have a lot of baggage and is getting on in years, so him stepping down in a year or two for a chosen successor would be ideal. At the very least, I'd hope that everyone but the hardline labour right has at least recognised that the manifesto presented by the party in this election was popular with lots of people. Like, if you're a centrist careerist, surely you should look at the approval numbers and run on something similar?
