I said it before and I'll say it again, the least damaging thing the Tories could do is go "loving have it then" and force Corbyn to be PM. Nobody is going through Brexit without taking a hit, and any deal the Tories make to hold power is just going to hurt them AND leave them in power for negotiations they'll fail to get a good deal from.

I don't think the Tories not being able to get enough would have automatically made Corbyn PM. He wouldn't have been able to command a majority either. Corbyn was not only 2k votes away from becoming PM. More likely, it would've been another election.

why do you guys keep saying Tories/DUP would be a majority of 1? They have 328 seats combined compared to 322 for everyone else. That's a majority of 6 and it's really a working pmajority of 13 because of Sinn Fein.

Sturgeon seem to be considering seriously rowing back on indyref2, if her line about 'listening to the voters' is anything to go by.

Trouble is if they don't have independence, they become a party of rather boring centrists. And those haven't done very well recently.

It's not really 13, because the 7 Sinn Fein seats are subtracted from the 650 total. So you need 322 for a majority and they have 328, giving them a working majority of 7.

Four MPs on their side voting the wrong way could lose them anything. And that's without one Tory facing charges for electoral fraud and a potential by-election.

This will only strengthen the DUP. They just had their best election ever and defied the "declining unionism" narrative and now have the Tories over a barrel to pull concessions out of them, putting them in the strongest position Unionisms been at in Westminster since the 70s.

This will only cement their vote as the preeminent party of Unionism and there is no effective challenger to them in most constituencies

Somebody who knows more about the modern Tory party can correct me if I'm wrong ion a contemporary sense, but historically the Tories have been a rather natural home for a lot of British Catholic politicians. It'll be interesting to see if they can stomach being propped up by a bunch of fundie Protestants who openly hate them.

Because it's based on rebelling rather than abstaining. If a single tory backbencher voted against the party line, it'd go to 327 - 323, if 3 do then it'll be 325 - 325, a stalemate.

Sinn Fein are always 7 abstains. So it's 328 - 315, so if 7 tories rebel then it's 321-322.

They are self-enriching, I don't know if you'd call them right wing really. The major cuts in NI spending happen during periods of direct rule because the DUP has a very large working class base that relies on money from the British state.
