Oh it might be. Toei is kind of bug nuts insane about the price for Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. Especially Kamen Rider. Crunchyroll has tried to get the rights to Kamen Rider before, but the price was way too high.

There have technically been two official subbed releases of Kamen Rider in the west, Kamen Rider V3 and Kamen Rider The First. Problem is, they were released in a limited quality and are probably pretty hard to find now (I think V3 was exclusive to Hawaii for example).

Another fantastic toku week. Balance is a dick but also the best, or at least second best since Naga can't go a week without stealing the whole show. What a great face that guy has. As for Ex-Aid, I really like when he jumps out of Maximum to fight in his base form at level 99 power. Maximum is fun but huge and clunky as heck so that's a neat way to get around it and let the base form get some action in without having to BS a reason for why it's doing anything against endgame level threats.

Yeah, I said this earlier, but it bears repeating. Everybody in that family is loving awesome, and they are probably my favorite Kamen Rider villains (/antiheros I guess, for Kuroto) in a very long time. Like, Heart was pretty good, but he lacked the flair for drama. The Energy Riders in Gaim were pretty good, too, but like as individuals. Whereas Masamune and Kuroto are just always blasting at 100% professional-grade supervillain, and it's glorious.

I am going to miss the hell out of Ex-Aid when it ends. Dan Masamune and SHIN Dan Kuroto are going to be very hard to top as villains go. The whole cast is amazing, and the series hasn't really hit a low point for me.

So Japan passed a law today that would allow Emperor Akihito to abdicate from the throne, which he's expected to do by the end of 2018. What this means for us is that the Heisei era is coming to a close and we'll have a third era to worry about when classifying karate bugmens.

Neo Heisei is just kind of stupid to say considering what the Showa and Heisei eras ARE. There's no actual difference between the Heisei era of Kuuga and the Heisei era of W because it's the same drat thing, the show just changed radically. We did a similar thing with the Godzilla fandom, incorporating two Showa Era films into the Heisei era because they fit the mold there more, and they were the start of the Heisei Era of films up to 1995's Godzilla VS Destroyah. We ended up calling the series of largely unconnected films after Destroyah the Millennium Era due to it beginning with Godzilla 2000, at the dawn of the new Millennium. Likely, 2014 and Shin are going to be rolled into whatever the new Era is going to be, due to their displacement from the rest.
