Boing posted:How would a Tory-DUP coalition undermine the terms of the Good Friday Agreement? Because it means that the British government, which in theory ought to be neutral, is now entirely on the side of the DUP. Sinn Fein is not going to like that one bit, and that makes the whole agreement more shaky, which is bad.

Boing posted:How would a Tory-DUP coalition undermine the terms of the Good Friday Agreement? By giving one side power in government, giving them an unequal say over Northern Irish issues. One of the weirdnesses of Stormont is that it's designed to insure power sharing between the Unionists and Republicans. This is especially bad because Stormont has collapsed recently due to DUP fuckery, so there's talk of Westminster rule being brought back in the interim. Having the DUP in power while that happens would be cassus loving belli.

Theresa May restarting the troubles purely to cling onto a figleaf of power. I hope she stays on as the leader of the Tories forever. Just let these cunts decimate themselves.

Yeah, the impact of a MAYDUP government on power sharing has the potential to be really, really bad. The only resolution I can see is for May to appoint a NI secretary from outside the Conservative party so they can be seen as independent, but even if she were willing to eat that crow it's going to be a tough job to recruit for.

You will basically never hear about the DUP in the news again after the next few weeks, so they might end up being a great choice for the Tories as it gets them a government that is pretty much 100% Conservative Party in the eyes of the public without having to actually win the seats.
