Brandon Lewis is now a Home Office minister. Lewis is all about the austerity, used to be a director of a private schools company Woodland School's Limited and used to lead Brentworth Borough Council (at the same time as he was director) during which time it was purely coincidence that Woodland Schools had business in that area. He's most notable for having run on a clean and open expenses campaign, only to get caught out when he was accused of using £37,000 of tax payers money for campaign purposes (IPSA never investigated). Add to this he made a big show of only claiming £21,500 for accommodation which was kind of undermined when it turned out he was also claiming £31,000 of hotel expenses in the same years. Lewis of course lives less than an hour away from Westminster.

Bobstar posted:I'm not sure on this, but I think the key word is "resident" (to register to vote in the normal way in the UK). But as residence in the UK seems to be an informal affair involving gas bills I feel like one could get away with things in a way that may or may not be against the spirit of the rules and/or fraud. Turns out, if I click all the way through to downloading a paper registration form, it finally specifies you have to be resident in the UK to register. Nothing on any site before you actually print out a form actually mentions this (though common sense would strongly suggest it must be the case). Oh well. Residence seems to be defined similar to Canada, more than half the year in the country or some other compelling reason that ties you tot he country.

quote:One of the problems we've had is that the ICT curriculum in the past has been written for a subject that is changing all the time. I think that what we should have is computer science in the future - and how it fits in to the curriculum is something we need to be talking to scientists, to experts in coding and to young people about. This is the level of idiocy we are working with.

What sort of odds were the bookies giving on a hung parliament in the last few weeks? Because if someone wasn't too busy* bring President and got his hands on a time machine and a political almanac he could really have been going to be clean up in the last few years.
