At least Phil Kessel has twice as many Cups than the Leafs in the last 50 years. I can feel good about that.

yeah, so the Pens could theoretically end up keeping both of them if Vegas decides they want someone else. Fleury would be a good choice for them though so it wouldn't surprise me if they took him.

Barring any big roster changes before everything is due, here is the one true protection list for the Buffalo Hockey Sabres. If Jason Botterill does anything different than indicated below I will immediately hate his guts Forwards O'Reilly Okposo Kane Carrier Larsson Girgensons Foligno Defensemen Ristolainen McCabe Falk (aka "anyone that isn't Zack Bogosian or Josh Gorges") Goalie Lehner

I think Vegas probably will take MAF actually, unless the Pens do something retarded like expose Dumo or Jultz

That is still the most likely course of events, this just means that Pittsburgh can expose MAF in the draft. There's no good reason that Vegas would select him when they can select someone else off the Pens roster and then work on prying an extra asset or two from Pittsburgh in return for solving their cap/goalie issues.

Hopefully McPhee does us a favor. Though a defense trade is likely in the works.

the funny thing is that the coyotes are looking at exposing mike smith who would be leagues better behind a bad team than fleury would be. ryan miller or mason or whomever on a 2 year deal with the acknowledgement that developing domingue is the #1 concern would be good

JollyPubJerk posted:lol if you think Falk gets protected over Bogo You protect Falk because if you can unload Bogosian on Vegas and get out from underneath his cap hit, you do it. Bogo is the "better" player, and while it's possible he rebounds under a coach that isn't Dan Bylsma, cap management is going to be very important for the next few years, and it's supposedly one of Botterill's biggest strengths. I will not be one bit surprised if Bogo gets exposed for that reason alone

The real interesting expansion question is the Ducks, they pretty much need to move Vatanen for a forward and to trade for an eligible D to expose or they'll probably have to expose Manson

I'm interested in the Wild too. My understanding is one of Brodin or Dumba will have to be exposed unless they're traded first.

MAF waiving his NMC for Vegas 12 hours after the Finals end most likely means some kind of deal is already in place and Vegas has probably assured him that he will be their opening night starter, IMO. I doubt they promised him anything longer term than that and they'll probably give him a 50/50ish split with whichever younger guy they pick, but it makes sense for them.MAF will likely be by far the most marketable name on the inaugural Knights and insofar as there's such a thing as Veteran Presence he's pretty much the best possible guy for providing it. The Preds are either about to trade one of their 4 good defensemen to somebody that can protect him or are going to give Vegas a pile of goodies not to take one, right?

If MAF really wanted to play in Vegas he's giving up millions by not forcing the Pens to buy him out and then just signing with the Knights. Stupid choice
