I started on just a tiny bit less than that in London a fair while back. Initially my wife and I lived with her parents. Eventually be moved into a one bedroom "flat" in zone 5 that used to be someone's garage and which leaked. About 6 months into it the floor developed a small hill in the middle of it which broke our bed and the shower cubicle fell of the wall it had been poorly attached to. The landlord "fixed" the shower by making the shower work but not fixing the structural damage and also the shower wouldn't do hot water anymore. Sometimes the electricity would stop working for hours at a time because one of the adjacent flat inside the house (same landlord) had a water leak onto an electrical cable every time it rained heavily. Just before we left there started to be a weird smell that would couldn't find the source of. The Landlord almost never responded to complaints and never actually fixed anything beyond the most cursory of workaround solutions. We moved as soon as we could afford to and annually glitter-bomb the landlord.

coffeetable posted:Assuming you're referring to the rightmove link earlier: you can get a room in London for a lot less than that, but you'll be a lot further out and it'll be a lot grottier than that ad. I think the standard among my mid-20s friends is £400-£500/month for a room in a 3-4 bed flatshare. I think that's a ~50% premium on the rest of the country? Worth it if you're a careerist or work in a high-wage industry, madness otherwise. we're moving over to month to month soon so in the interests of protecting ourselves from a snap eviction we were circling out on the map, looking at where stuff started to get a bit cheaper than the peoples republic of hackney and when we got to catford I just tapped out. I'd move to a commuter town in a second but then the monthly rail card costs almost as much as my rent now

I asked my dad about the fire and he said it's always possible for fire to spread externally but he's never seen it spread as quickly as it did. Thankfully the news seems to be moving quickly on to how residents concerns about fire safety were repeatedly ignored by those in authority. It makes a nice change from the usual lovely line of 'we can't possibly talk about who is to blame at this tragic time'. It's a sad loving commentary on our society that houses that were perfectly safe and well built in the 70s have been rendered death traps by ignorant managers slapping on tacky plastic cladding to make the place look more modern. gently caress safety, it's all about the optics.

They're specifically for my commute to Green Park, but they'd likely look similar for any other central London job. I recommend you right click and open them in their own tab - they're pretty big. I also didn't know much about map services, which is why they're artifact-y as hell. First up we've got house prices, which are like rents but have much better data (thanks, Land Registry): Next, we've got commute time to Green Park using tube, bus and walking: And finally there's how expensive the area is compared to all other areas with the same commute :

it's kinda adorable that a party with fewer MPs than the cabinet itself pretends to have a front and a back bench. I find it hard to believe Paddick is only just finding out about Farron's views when the chemical leaching is turning frogs and fish gay tweet was two years ago now. Not knowing anything about Lib Dem internal politics, I'd say this was the beginnings of a move to oust Tim and get someone else (Swinson?) in. TinTower?
