By mechanics and enemies it absolutely dwarfs EW already. 3 new classes vs 1, 7 new enemy types vs 5, like 4 new soldier mechanics vs genemods and a whole bunch of new modifiers/mission types and subsystems.

The only thing its missing are the explicit setpiece missions like Furies and Newfoundland.

Moralists don't really *have* beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

Firaxis hasn’t forgotten about those still experiencing technical issues with XCOM 2, says Solomon, and War of the Chosen will come with some engine fixes. “We’ve definitely made improvements to loading times, certainly to stability, steady state frame rate has gone up. We have, right outside of my office, a bunch of machines running the game on a loop. It’s pretty fun, actually, because you can watch the AI play the game over and over, and there’s a performance monitor. They’ve done a lot of improvements, performance-wise.”

Oh thank god. Game is still way buggier than I would like.

Well, there's gonna be each of the Chosen's home base...plus I would not be surprised if each faction had a storyline setpiece either at the start or midway through (though since the Chosen are 1:1 linked with the factions their bases could be taken as a sort of faction setpiece endcap).

I do like how the AWC is being replaced with an Infirmary (which is what the thing should have been named in the first place since that's what it was) and instead of getting 1 random skill at a random point each soldier gets 4 random skills...that you have to pay for. So you get some control and it's a choice between buying 1, maybe 2 skills on most soldiers or 3-4 on your A-team.

Also for anyone who didn't see it, they confirmed what a 'headshot' is for the Lost.

Basically if you kill them with a shot it counts as a headshot and you get your action point back. So your dudes can chain kill them as long as they have the ammo and damage to.

Also using explosives against them attracts more Lost to the sound of the explosion.

Right, they're just Psi-Ops with different powers and a more interesting way of leveling besides "let them incubate for half the game, the bust them out on a rampage".

And I'd rather have more mechanics/reactivity than extra missions, so this expac sounds great.

If you thought it was a serious pastiche on Alien Invasion tropes I'm sorry, but thats on you. XCom has always been about the absurdist, and structured as a GI Joeish take on the whole Aliens thing.

I'm not saying you have to like the Chosen. I'm saying we've all said our piece and Firaxis isn't changing them off what gets posted in this thread.

I have a long reply to this in my mind involving the whole atmosphere of the original game and what was preserved, changed and improved upon for XCOM:EU. But I won't post it because gently caress it. Describing the series as "snake titties" or posting a link to the intro of X-Com as reply is something only someone who has never played a night mission in the original game would do. Or even a terror site in EU, for that matter. Jake Solomon *nailed* the atmosphere of EU because he loved the original, and I'm pretty sure he'd seen the intro a hundred times. And yet, when given more time and resources, he moved away from some of the elements that you latched onto and focused more on elements that have always been present in the series that you simply decided were less important. Sorry that I did play X-Com and also posted a link to the intro, though, because your assertion that I simply don't exist is a little weird. Not everyone obsessed about the same elements that you do. I'd read your post about atmosphere if have anything besides increasingly louder "any TRUE FAN would share my beliefs!" yells, though.

I think its incredibly unfair to act like the atmosphere of this expansion pack is going to be so bad based on a trailer that supposed to be generating hype for awesome features. It could have tons of atmosphere. That's not gonna be represented in the trailer, much like the atmosphere of the original Xcom isn't represented by its schlocky intro.

But the bottom line is you don't get to complain about the design of the Chosen while simultaneously acting like the design of green spandex mutons was just fine. If the latter didn't ruin UFO defense for you, give the Chosen the benefit of the doubt.

That's a really broad question. What are you looking for? Different classes? New mechanics? New outfits?

Captin Bub's acessory pack is the classic good poo poo outfit pack. I also like Stenchfury's armor and helmet sets, they're really cool.

RealityMachina specializes in adding a ton of cool side mechanics. Like random events, recruiting alien soldiers with different stats etc.

If you don't want Long War the other big class packs are Shadow Ops and Spectrum. Personally I like Shadow Ops.
