Look all I'm saying is that if there is going to be a new Star Trek, it should be a followup to DS9 and about Sisko returning from The Black Lodgethe Wormhole, and the show is written, directed and produced by David Lynch.

Surely that isn't asking too much.

It's Retrospect, which is divisive, but the ending makes it the worst, because it's actually reprehensible. The metaphors in Star Trek don't tend to be subtle, and when you're doing one about sexual assault, the message at the end shouldn't be "Maybe she accidentally just made the whole thing up because of her traumatic childhood."

Oh THAT one. That one is definitely one of the worst, alongside the one with the obscenely rascist prisoner subplot and the one where B'Elanna throws a teenage spat over her unborn daughter hsving klingon forhead ridges and tries to re-engineer her genetics so she'll grow into a blonde-haired pure human :godwin:.

Looks really good, but I have to say that: "With his plans approaching fruition, the Master travels to Stamford Bridge in the 1970s" is not a sentence that gets me all a-quiver.

It turns out the Master's just a big Chelsea fan and not missing a match is the one thing more important to him than conquering the universe.

I did wonder if they'd planned to have The War Doctor and Master ever meet in the audios, but I realised that wouldn't have worked (without a memory wipe of the Doctor). :sigh:

I mean, honestly, this doesn't work as is.

The Master arrived at the end of time as a child fresh from regeneration, and naturally grew up into a kindly old man due to being biologically human.

He wasn't ever active in the Time War as Jacobi Master.

But whatever, hopefully they can tell some good stories with it.

Did he? I was under the impression all of the footage of him as a child was a flashback to the Time Lords changing his history.

Nah, he straight up says that he has no memories of where he came from, but he was found as a naked child by people, with the only thing in his possession being his watch.

So I guess you could write around it, but the intent was pretty clear.

But again, if you can tell a good story by retconning it, go for it.

I figured that was a false memory, like the Doctor's John Smith persona.

I always took it at face value- the false memory would be where he came from, but he was clearly around in this time line as Yana for a pretty drat long time. And it would make sense that the Master, attempting to flee from the Time War, would regress to an actual child and hide away.

But it's not a big thing.

That's great news, if only because Derek Jacobi rules and I loved the oh so brief glimpse we had of him as the Master.

And yeah, I assumed that the "I was found as a child" bit was just a false memory implanted by the Chameleon Arch, in the same way that John Smith remembers his parents and being a child during the tail end of the Victorian era.

Bicyclops

I would legitimately be hugely excited if, years from now, they had a multi-master episode with as many people as they could get, on screen, and if talented, scenery-chewing actor, Derek Jacobi's only role was to say "Well, I just thought-" and then Missy says "Shut up, Yana!" and then it pans away, leaving him offscreen for the rest of the episode. That is how much I want more Derek Jacobi as the Master on screen (with all respect to Big Finish, I need him to act with his face).

I'm half-expecting the resolution of this season to be Missy simply biding her time and waiting for her prior incarnation to come rescue her. Just as she remembers doing when she was Simms Master.

I feel like the news about Simms Master being released early and then the teaser clip of his appearance at the start of the season will only lead to massive amounts of fan disappointment. It has a high chance of ending up as Facebook hater fuel. Like either the reason for his presence isn't explained properly, or the story doesn't live up to mass expectations or something.

There's literally no way this is going to end up pleasing everyone and it should have been kept just as secret as 8th Doctor regeneration or the actress for the 13th Doctor.
