I think May and the conservatives are in such a bad position she wouldn't be allowed to resign even if she accepted her fate.

I honestly wouldn't put money on her making it to the Queen's speech on Weds at this point. Which, if it goes ahead, is going to be an interesting event, since the speech itself is prepared by May's government (such as it is). I wonder what they'll want her to say, and if there'll be any push-back from the palace.

So what do people think is the best strategy for Labour at this point? Should they be trying to oust May on the basis that she's almost certainly got to go before another election can happen? Should they be trying to engineer an election as soon as possible? Or sitting back and watching the Tories destroy their popularity by mishandling crisis after crisis?

What's all this I've been hearing about senior Lib Dem's meeting with the Gov over the last couple of days while everyone's been looking at the fire? Some of the right wing press seem to be under the impression that they're close to doing a coalition deal with the Tories.

You know I thought this when Farron went back to his amphibian test tubes - he was by far the most vocal about not doing a deal with either Tories or Labour, when he went I thought "Hmm this kinda clears the way for them to do another coalition deal" but didn't bother voicing it because it seemed too outlandish even for these times.

The Mail's story about it seems to link Jo Swanson to the potential deal, so it's entirely possible it's a planted story to try and undermine her leadership bid. But Jesus Christ if it's not.

If they do a deal it'll be with Labour. Even the lib dems aren't stupid enough to go into coalition with a party they have no common ground with when the progressive alliance was one of the main things helping them cling onto seats.
