I read a psychological paper one time a fuckton of years ago that said that there is more damage caused in hot weather riots because people go to the off-licence or supermarkets to buy beer before a protest, see the vodka bottles and impulse buy "just in case", iirc there was also a thing in there about the natural paranoia about the filth being able to trace credit card transactions being quashed because they can explain buying the vodka for refreshing drinks.

Nahh. Stuff like this has too high potential blowback from politicising the tragedy, while making a positive statement about what you would/will do won't offend anyone. From a very mercenary standpoint, in the age of memes it's safe to let your supporters do your attack dog work, because any negative backlash will be directed at some anonymous twitter user. Fire suppressant insulation is a thing and totally worth it. This house Is pretty much fire proofed apart from I need to buy the doors. It actually has some metal door frames, because it's an ex-council house built in 1948 and they are original. Turns out that in the 1940s the council round here actually gave more of a poo poo about saftey and installed them in any rooms that would have a coal fire or oven in and any door leading on to a coal house.

congrats. throw out the bums! kick these charlatans from the board! elect residents who will represent our REAL interests (like not being burnt to death in our beds)!

but it turns out, whoops, actually there are very good reasons why elected residents are disinterested, apathetic, and incompetent at exercising directorial power. that last is descriptive, not pejorative: if you're not an accountant, you are hardly going to feel confident in questioning any reports shoved in front of you by management, especially if those reports have already been signed off by auditors if you're not a paralegal, you're not going to defy management's legal advisors when they tell you what your entitlements and obligations supposedly are under the law. if you're not an engineer or tradesman yourself, if management gets three quotes from three licensed contractors, your only guide is going to be the lowest quoted figure. They're licensed, aren't they? Someone else already looked them over, innit?

which is what seems to have actually happened at KCTMO, IANALly speaking: a great deal of "this is frightening, please address our concerns that X might cause Y" from a group of minority shareholders*, but a total, abject reliance on management to spoonfeed responses to them. and so if management stonewalled them - because, after all, these are not committee members, and elections have consequences - then they only knew how to do... nothing

* who actually seem to have been more pursuing a vendetta against particular management members than anything else, actually; the "Grenfell Action Group" blog fell silent when those staff members were moved elsewhere, without any indication of a change in policy

To be fair, it's a lot more complicated to do this with a block of flats than an airplane or something. Not everyone listed as living there will have been at home, there will have been friends and partners staying over, sub-letting, etc.

I can understand why they're waiting for official confirmed numbers instead of just going hog-wild guessing on the national news.

Bollocks, the whole thing was owned by one company isnt it? So they would have a list of all the renters and family members.
Sure there may be a few extra people staying over, lovers, friends, family members etc.
But a core list of people living, that should be easily accessible quickly.

They are covering it up by stringing it out as long as they can, waiting for the next scandal, terrorist attack, or celeb gay affair to steal the headlines.
