That's actually a pretty standard fundraising gimmick. At one point Hillary was raising money by a "win a lottery to have dinner with Hillary and then see Hamilton" event.

It's only laughable because no moral person should want to be in the same room with Donald by choice.

That would be more similar to this situation if Hillary owned Hamilton or a theatre company or something. This is seriously Trump holding a contest to boost his own hotels by using his role as president as a draw

Also, fundraising dinner for an election campaign versus dinner with the sitting POTUS are on totally different scales, they aren't remotely comparable.

A big part of why he fell out of favor was that he had no particular grasp of how much damage his grandstanding and destruction of political mores was doing to the political structure backing him.

So yeah, he is kind of like Trump. :v:

Well to be honest, he will have them mercifully drowned in some kind of sauce so you won't know wtf they are. The two veggies that is. Of course he may, at his privilege, omit that choice.

Also, the dinner listed is what the winner of his dinner contest gets. POTUS will have multiple McDonald's happy meals and be too busy playing with the toys to eat his meal.

At least the last two times he's done it, he used Rassmussen. (Who tend to skew Republican because they only poll landlines, aka old people)

stringball
Mar 17, 2009

Can these skewed numbers do anything? For example they call the landlines, ask for thoughts/options on something, then say "well old people like it and they've been around the longest, they can't be wrong!" and said thing gets passed

It's Rasmussen. They do lots of robocalls and it skews to older people. Their disapproval rate is usually on point, but their approval rate is usually around five points too favorable.

I don't take it too seriously. Lately their most recent poll was 50/50. Not even 1% don't care/not sure. Sloppy.

Trump likes touting them because they're the poll that give him the most favorable results.

The useful thing about Rasmussen is that it uses a four point scale. Strongly approve, approve, disapprove, strongly disapprove. His strong approval went from early highs in the 40s to 31% in that 50/50 poll, while his strong disapproval went from 31% to 42%. And they've been as far as 27/47. If strong opinions affect election turnout, Rasmussen polling is still pretty dire for Trump.
