This is an interesting thread. The Rest of the Star Citizen Universe: Progress Update?

It seems like it was just yesterday when I was saying that they were never - ever - going to be able to build the world scope they promised. That aside from the fact that their tech requires them to build these moons/planets manually (no procedural tech to automate the process).

Now some hardcore backers who already know the original claim was bullshit to begin with, are saying that they knew it was bullshit, that they would be happy to get just some of them etc.

Oh how far we've come.

A company with over $151m can't build tools to create a procedurally generated world. Meanwhile, my Battlecruiser/Universal Combat, games built over three decades ago, as well as current games like Elite Dangerous, Infinity Battlescape, Dual Universe, all have that tech in some form or another.

It's amazing.

Wait until they implement physics 2.0, which should deal with those arbitrary constrictions. The next "Fermi" concept sale should deliver enough money.

TO ALL BACKERS

Just read through all the completed tasks listed on https://starcitizentracker.github.io/ and ask yourself:

When will they start building a game?

"Monthly Town Hall Q&A with Chris Roberts"
"Squadron 42: Capture faces for characters"
"Celebrity voice-acting"
"Customizable controls and keybinding"
"UEC purchasable with real money"

Man, like 80% of the completed entries are pure fluff or some other obvious poo poo or ship commercials.

So few actual important thingies:

"Vulkan graphic engine support"
"Star Marine - Game Mode" + other game modes
"Take advantage of multi-core processors"
"Matchmaking"
"Collision damage" (pretty broken if you see certain videos)
+ All their physics stuff you can ignore, its broken beyond all.

--> BUY THEIR NEXT CONCEPT SHIP DAMMIT, THEY NEED YOUR MONEY

Well… I mean… it did. It just didn't respect the deadline even in the slightest.

It's only in retrospect that it becomes clear that it wasn't so much a matter of dead… or line…or anything tight. It was something more akin to a rather vague suspend-ellipse.

I especially like the part when he talks about how they put him on multiplayer level design before he knew how to make multiplayer levels and he had to teach himself how to do it. Only the best and most experienced team works at CIG!

"star marine had a tight deadline" hahaha

I mean they only started working on it from scratch after Chris had promised it was coming at Gamescom, and then had like three/four months to build the whole thing out with a small team.

Plus that was delayed from their original date where they were supposed to drop it in a month and then move onto 3.0 and do that in three months.

That more than anything highlights how absurd the planning and management of this game is, they seem to think the actual "making the game" part will just fly by once they get around to it.
