Whoa! You're gonna be a legend!
I've heard the dungeon boss music a good dozen times at this point and while the second half is obviously the Stormblood motif my brain just made the connection that the first half is a dramatic version of the Garlean anthem :stare:

I'm never going to get tired of Soken coming up with awesome catchy themes and sticking them everywhere.

Yeah, have fun. I remember playing pretty heavy for a week straight, each night, thinking "tonight the night I get to Ishgard, right?"

Consider taking a break from the questline to check out Hildebrand or something to preserve your sanity.

RDM: Owns
I was surprised how easy it was to pick up for a class at 50. It doesn't feel overly elaborate or bloated with stupid skills and clumsy rotations.

I did a roulette last night with a RDM and noticed that they were constantly slowcasting the 5 second spells.

I looked at the parser afterwards and they had 45 uses of the first move of the melee combo, 15 of the second, and 3 of the finisher. all of this added up to less dps than my AST (and I didn't even have gravity because it was a level 50 dungeon)

seriously where the fuck did this genre come from
Since I fukken love the azim steppes here's some au ra lore:

(Lore book, Alex, and steppes spoilers) One of the dotharl NPCs makes an offhand comment that they fought the hotgo tribe. What they didn't mention is that when they win they kill the losing tribe, so the hotgo are gone, except for a few wanderers (like Mide and her group) who weren't with the tribe when the dotharl attacked.

If you talked to slowfix after finishing Alex, he mentions that y'shtola found a reference to a creation myth by the hotgo that implies Mide and her bf were eventually sent back in time by Alex and started the hotgo tribe.

So the dotharl believe heavily in reincarnation, yeah? That means you have a tribe that believes in reincarnation killing a tribe that reincarnates itself through time.

Eh. Even after 4 days of practice I'm still getting my muscle memory sorted out for weaving the short-cast and long-casts without loving up at some point. I can totally understand people fumbling RDM badly, especially when it's still the new hotness that people are trying out for novelty sake. I assume the job will sort itself out as the weeks go on.

Enjoying SB so far, missed 2 days due to being out of town, but that gave them enough time to unfuck the instance servers which is nice. My only complaint is the same complaint I have in any RPG: Sidequests always feel weird when you're putting off story missions for them. I don't know what a good way to get around it is, but it always feels weird to go fetch some shark meat for some guy when the story feels like timing matters. The story stuff is pretty well done (they've gotten progressively better at it over time) and with that comes a sense of urgency that sort of gets thrown out the window as you run around doing side quests. I'm still doing all the ones I can find since they're decent XP and can usually be done really quickly, but it still feels weird sometimes.

I've done no sidequests beyond ones that unlocked something and I'm still a level ahead of the main quest. Unless you completely ignore roulettes, I'd imagine much of the exp you gain will end up wasted when you hit 70 before the MSQ requires it. There's an absolute crapload of sidequests in SB.

Obviously canonically the WoL will just do anything they're asked so people take advantage of it.

Late, but on top of what Jinh said, my biggest issues so far are:
  • AoE nerf is way over the top for SMN - Bane, Shadowflare, Deathflare all got hit pretty hard, Miasma 2 is gone. I guess you can spam Tri-Bind.
  • The Bane nerf alone is just a numbers thing though, it doesn't affect gameplay directly so I can pretend everything is fine and spread my two DoTs.
  • Shadowflare, yeah it's an oGCD now, but it's also less powerful and you can't move it anymore, which is a major pain unless your tank never moves mobs out of the area.
  • You spend a lot of time just casting variants of Ruin, because you essentially lost two more DoTs with cast time to maintain (Ruin and Shadowflare) and can't use your Aetherflow skills in Dreadwyrm Trance.
  • "single nearest target" is probably the dumbest way to do the new group utility pet buff, so of course that's what they did
  • Sustain is gone, all you have to heal your pet with is Physick, which scales with mind and is awful for summoners - if you ever wanted to use tank pets to tank harder enemies like boss fates, now you don't
Maybe it all balances out in raw numbers with the new upgraded spells, but in general gameplay, summoner feels downgraded in almost every way to me except, yay, you get to summon Bahamut-egi. For some people that will be enough I guess.

Oh don't get me wrong, I make mistakes and fumble my dualcast all the time, wasting it on jolt and verfire/stone, mistakes since getting impact have pretty much doubled. :v: Not to mention the times I miscalculate my mana and dive in too soon, or gently caress up the melee combo because I was still in GCD when I hit the first action of the combo. Oh, and plenty of displacing into AOEs. Don't displace on Zurvan.

I'm just more surprised someone would hard cast the slow spells consistently. There's no reason to do it, even if you messed up the rotation, you're probably better off interrupting the cast and starting back with a short spell.

Im actually having a good time with the side quests in SB. They're very revealing of the lives of the npcs in ffxiv and it feels good to make a difference before moving on, even if it is a bit "oh i know where this is going" anytime we get to a new area where we receive a cold welcome.

Yeah, pretty much. I'm leveling as summoner mainly so that I can play scholar and it takes scholar infinity to kill anything, but it's really kinda lackluster. I do very much appreciate aethertrail attunement never going away and such, but the class feels a lot more anemic than it was in HW. I haven't gotten my last 2 abilities though, so we'll see. I doubt Bahamut egi will make up the difference compared to what they did for BLM and RDM looks great.
