No one anywhere gives a single gently caress about low level technicians and operators because unions have been largely defanged or destroyed. They give half a gently caress if you are somebody like a competent millwright, electrician etc who keeps the machines going and will pay you a livable wage. If you are a guy who pushes the button to tell the robutt to go you will not be paid that well and also the "work" is mind numbing most of the time. And factories are definitely going to be generally more dirty, dangerous and uncomfortable than an office job some place so it makes perfect sense for people to avoid them if the pay and benefits aren't drastically better. You also rarely/never have to work graveyard or swing in a normal office job. Basically if the guy writing the article had gone out to probably any factory anywhere and interviewed like 5 junior people he could have written a story worht a poo poo
