the article says he had joined Mégret's splinter party back in the 1990s, Mégret was a higher up under Jean Marie Le Pen who decided to split and form his own party, the National Republican Movement.

the article says he joined back and now is in charge of PR for Marine Le Pen

Megret was one of Lepen lieutenants in the 90s who decided that Jean Marie "déconne" (was bullshitting/loving around) so (can you guess?) he split the party in two. His part of the party went nowhere and Marinne inherited the party later. Should have waited, a split during the inheritance would have hosed everyone a lot more.

Well Macron got his majority. Granted, he got it on the back of the worst legislative turnout in the 5th Repubilc, not that that matters in the short term.. So when he guts bargaining and makes the state of emergency the norm, but things don't miraculously get better, where do you see anger turning towards? A reinvigorated far right? An even crustier commie? Or full on US style voter apathy. 22% participation rate, most of it geriatrics.

A week is a long time in politics (in the Era of Trump, a day is a long time in politics) and Macron has five years to make his mark. In five years people will have mostly forgotten what a disappointment the Hollande government was, and may grant a reformed PS a new chance. Or they'll forget about Sarkozy's antics and give LR another chance. Or they may have gotten over their anger at whatever kind of labour market reform Macron cooks up and for want of a decent alternative, reelect him anyway.

People reelected Reagan, they releected Thatcher, they reelected Bush; Macron's not actually all that likely to be succeeded by some far left or far right revolutionary.

They wanted to look like they weren't caving to public pressure but in the end it doesn't really matter and keeping him that long probably just killed a lot of good will people had toward them.

Nope! it's just that by convention ministers who run for a seat and lose are dropped from government, which raises the question of why they're even running since they won't even take their seat while in gov (it's their running mate who will).

i guess it gives them a political office to fall back on if they leave the gov.

often it creats funny situation though, I remember with delight seeing Alain Juppé lose in Bordeaux in 2007 or Ségoléne Royal lose in the Ile de Ré in 2012, it's the little things. All the Macron ministers won this time though, the only one who came close to losing was Annick Girardin in St Pierre and Miquelon, and even then I don't think the Minister for Overseas would have been a big loss.

Get it right, you should know that in 1937 the design wasn't finalised and it certainly wasn't the only year in which it was designed.

They literally do nothing unless the real député dies, becomes minister (same thing), or goes on a mission of more than 6 months. They're not paid.
