I'm still chortling at the police chief's comments about how these new powers and responsibilities the gov wants for the police are all well and good but that there's no "magic police tree" to provide the police to be able to do them.

No, what you're seeing here from Labour is the distilled product of 800 years of burns being laid down on the floor of the house. Americans whip out a pistol and shoot someone. The British can achieve the same effect by politely agreeing with them.

Tories did some smug speeches, Corbyn steps up and everyone gets fuckin told He's seriously got so much better at this, he seemed confident and at ease while getting digs in and shouting at the Tories over what they've been doing to the country. He gave way to a 6 people early (including Tories who asked him to rule stuff out as though he's already the PM) meaning he could launch into a full tirade without giving way while the opposite bench shouted angrily for like 15 minutes solid

serious gaylord posted:So what did I miss? Corbyn didn't bow to the Queen, which according to the Mail and Express is the most terrible thing ever. Until it was pointed out that not bowing is the correct protocol (apparently the Speaker bows for the whole parliament? I don't know, it's all a bit confusing) and really it was Theresa May that hosed up. Looking back at previous years it really doesn't seem to matter - Cameron didn't bow, Miliband didn't, Gordon Brown did. Just another outrage over nothing.

Is there a reason IDS is always standing at end of the chamber flanked by a bunch of big lads with his arms folded? Is he like the resident Commons bully who shakes down MPs for their lunch money on the way to the toilet? He is is always in the exact same spot for PMQs too. Also lol at how raging May looks.

I don't know if I'm just getting caught up in all this hope but gently caress me Corbyn really does just seem significantly more powerful in the commons than May does atm. I've always liked Corbyn but I think it's fair to say he hasn't always been that great in the commons. I think a combo of the electoral success, his party actually being behind him and just straight up having more practice have really boosted him in the chamber. Also, I enjoyed watching Tom Watson failing to conceal a grin at every savage burn. Things are going pretty well now the party isn't trying to rip itself apart.

Corbyn has gained a lot of confidence and experience since he became leader, and having his party behind him is a huge help. There was even this great intervention by a Labour MP:Toby Perkins posted:I couldn’t help but notice, as the prime minister and the leader of the opposition went off to listen to the humble address, to think back to when I was at school and I didn’t see people for six weeks. And then they came back and you thought ‘has she shrunk, or has he grown?’
