To me that DM editorial reeks of advance damage control. I'd bet they've gotten a tip that some stuff about the Finsbury attack is going to come out that's going to make them look pretty fuckin' bad and they're circling the wagons in preparation.

If the DUP don't get their concessions they surely have to vote against the queen's speech, surely? Otherwise they're telling the tories to "ignore us, we don't matter at all". Right?

The chief exec of Kensington and Chelsea council has quit. Or rather been asked for his resignation by the leaders of the council. So there is the scapegoat.

Reveilled posted:So do they do a full reopening of parliament to go with it, or does the Queen just show up to the Lords to do the speechy bit? I actually double checked this and the last time something similar happened in '24 there wasn't a second kings speech. Baldwin lead the conservatives to become the largest party in a hung parliament in December 23, met parliament in January 24 and his king speech was amended with a no confidence motion leading to his resignation and a minority labour government being appointed. Parliament reconvened in February with no new kings speech, but a debate on the governments programme was opened but with no division. So no it does seem Brenda doesn't have to come back

Since then prime ministers who believe they can not secure confidence/win a division on the queens speech have declined meeting parliament instead

Regarde Aduck posted:Our food is great. We took the best bits of European food and removed the excess bullshit. The thing about European food is an intense desire to hide the actual taste of whatever the base is. You're not supposed to taste the beef or chicken. We find this weird. Our detractors call us bland. The only European food worth a drat is Italian who understand that food should be fun, not pomp. Everyone else, including the US who just stole everything and uses a knife and fork to cut steak up into tiny pieces before consumption and no one should ever accept their wisdom or advice on food ever, you can all piss off. Nouvelle Cuisine isn't written in French for no reason.
