If you're an average person sure, mistakes happen, but if you're a professional who depends on their public image? Then it's maybe worth a 10-second google so you don't inadvertently attach yourself some something or someone unpleasant.

Miami Man Faces $120 Million Fine for 96-Million Robocall Spree

quote:

A Miami man accused of flooding consumers with 96 million phone calls touting fake travel deals faces a record proposed $120 million fine from federal regulators, who said he operated the worst robocall spoofing effort they had seen.

Adrian Abramovich tried to trick consumers into answering and listening to his advertising messages, the Federal Communications Commission said in a news release Thursday. The pace of calls works out to an average of more than 1 million per day.

WSU is probably gonna get hit with a fine and they're going to have to figure out whether the person who had the data on that laptop was supposed to have it, and whether this followed any of their institutional policies. My guess is this is a student who was not supposed to take the data off of school computers and loving emailed it to him/herself or something.

Whats wrong with the peanut butter jelly one?

The jam goes directly onto the bread instead of onto a buffer layer of peanut butter, so it's going to soak into the bread and be all wet and gross, and then the bread is oriented incorrectly.

You're supposed to spread jam onto the peanut butter?

Doesn't that mess up the knife and cross-contaminate your jam jar?

You have to wipe the knife between spreads, but it doing a light layer of PB on both slices of bread with the jelly in between keeps the sandwich from getting soggy. It's a useful trick if you're packing it for a lunch or something and don't plan to eat it on the spot.

That said, I think the gif cuts that one early. I seem to remember that in the original an additional layer of jelly is pasted onto the outside of the sandwich.

Edit: Ahh, I was close. Here's the original,

This happened to Bob Weber Jr., actually. Somebody submitted a Sonichu drawing under the name "Chris" (a mentally ill person who has been harassed incessantly about said drawings), and it made it into papers. People very quickly informed him about reverse image search after that.

An activist recently put together some stuff on Louisiana's penal work forces, specifically the fact that basically all the staff at both the Capital Building and the Governors mansion are black prisoners.

http://www.thefader.com/2017/05/20/activist-samuel-sinyangwe-louisiana-mass-incarceration

quote:

Some background: Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the *world.* Within that, black people are locked up at much higher rates.

I was informed almost everyone controlling the state government is former police or corrections or connected to it. It's a huge industry.

So I'm in the capitol, watching the state legislators moving around. Mostly middle aged white men with blazers, khakis. They're in charge.

And *then* I noticed that all the people serving food, cleaning, printing papers IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE are prisoners.

But it goes deeper. They also work in the governor's mansion. You know, the one that looks like this.

...its viewed as a *privilege* for prisoners to be chosen to work in the state legislature, getting paid next to nothing. It's better than the work outside, on the prison grounds. In the fields instead of being in the house.

What are we supposed to think about the legislators there? Interacting with prisoners every day. Getting served food, papers printed, etc. How do we change these systems when they're all so entrenched? The people in power are all part of it, benefitting from it.
