What really baffles me is how these irreconciliable visions failed to be ironed out from the get go. This was the case with Garth Edwards too, supposedly. I assume these young directors just go nuts when they get the Star Wars phone call and basically say the most inoffensive things so they get the job. Or Lucasfilms is just bad at communicating expectations.

Tars Tarkas posted:It will probably be an editorial mess like Rogue One was, but IMHO they at least pulled that off into a passable film I like better than Episode 7. Multiple books will be written about this movie, weird thinkpieces, oral histories, lots of things to consume, many might be better than the film itself. Or not, who knows?! Probably a lot less than if it was for another movie. Force Awakens was supposed to have a fully detailed making-of book about its conception and development and filming, but even the issues with that meant it got shelved by Lucasfilm. There's no way they'll let anything come out about the development of something that's an even bigger mess like this, especially since it would reflect badly on the brand.

I guess Disney couldn't afford to alienate Kennedy and Kasdan? This is going to be one of those film what-ifs unless Han Solo Origins is a completely perfect movie. I'm almost certain it's going to be because L&M has jokes that are meta, break the 4th wall, or poo poo on the franchise itself. Star Wars is allowed to be goofy, but has to take itself seriously, and never self aware. Especially to nerds that have been helming it from the very beginning.

For Golan Globus Ninja movies you really really need to see 9 Deaths of the Ninja with Sho Kosugi playing a goofy ninja named Spike Shinobi. It's up there with Chuck Norris's Firewalker (also a Cannon film) for what the gently caress kind of action movie did I just see? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faW5L_3OkwA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3_4en0N9oU

Transformers 5 is looking at just around a $50 million opening weekend which would be a 50% drop compared to Transformers 4. And less than what Transformers 2 made on its opening day. Paramount has gotta be praying for the Chinese to save this thing.

The only reason Transformers does so well in China is because it was one of the first western cartoon series allowed in China back in the 80s when it was economically liberalizing. Transformers and transforner toys were kids first taste of western capitalism. Anyway, my point is that nostalgia train is gonna run dry sooner or later. Unless they make the next Transformers movie a Journey to the West crossover or something. Then they'll make a giillion dollars.

The Beast Machines storyline would probably be more fitting, seeing as how Beast Wars was more about time travel and poo poo like that, whereas BM had the whole "metal vs. organic" theme going and Primal and his crew basically became eco-terrorists in response to Megatron's industrialized despotism.

A pulpy comic-book thriller about a rogue surgeon (Sigourney Weaver) who performs a vengeful gender reassignment operation on a hit man named Frank Kitchen (Michelle Rodriguez), it’s somehow also Hill’s first film with women in the lead roles.
