Trickjaw posted:I really do not understand why the people Camden Council evacuated are snarling and bitching. Alright, a night on an air mattress and in a leisure centre isn't much fun, but the fire service and council reacted very swiftly to save their lives, and there are still people in that block refusing to budge. I assume you'd be perfectly fine with someone kicking you out of your home and forcing you to sleep on an air mattress in a leisure centre for a totally unspecified amount of time, then?

In other news, if you want to know one of the reasons why the Mail went on the offensive about the Guardian cartoon, the Finsbury Park attacker had left a note full of Daily Mail talking points about Khan and Lilly Allen and also the BBC drama about the Rochdale grooming case. The mail's coverage of it has focused on the BBC drama as the reason for his radicalisation and is trying to down play the other parts.

Obviously, it wouldn't be my first choice, but it beats burning to death, and I would be glad the council has got off their arse eventually. Apparently, the majority are him in hotels, even the woman with a dog.

I imagine that some of it might also be that kicking people out so you can install cladding doesn't make obvious, intuitive sense to some folks - after all, it's the outside of the building, and their flat's on the inside. Why should they leave? Now, I know that there are a number of decent reasons why that does need to happen, but you can see why it might get people's hackles up.

Also, people are bad at judging risk and probably think "It will be fine, I'll just stay here another few weeks. If we haven't burnt down yet its fine surely?"

Threat of fire increases dramatically when work is being done on a building, frankly. Especially if that work involves metalwork of any kind, because it's probably going to involve welding.
