I_Socom posted:Mr Adequate - what music do you actually like? It might be that it's just more conducive to being listened to recorded, rather than live. OFC gigs aren't necessarily for everyone, but I don't think I've seen anyone have a bad time at a gig. I'm not super picky, most of what I listen to is synthwave and electro-pop, but I wouldn't pretend I don't sometimes listen to Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, or Carly Rae Jepson. And I loving love CHVRCHES and Bastille too. (The first show I would have seriously considered going to since before the Age of Pigfucker was when my fiancee went to see Bastille a month or two ago, but alas I'm thousands of miles away so the point was moot.) I will say that I'm probably too quick to rule out live music at like, a jazz club or in a sit-down concert hall or just some local folks playing trad music in the pub, insofar as I wouldn't want to go see those but I can at least comprehend some aspect of the appeal. Your typical gig is utterly and deeply baffling to me though.

Gaga is pretty good live, but it's definitely more of a "show" than a note-perfect performance of her songs. Probably as manly costume changes as songs, but very good fun and, weirdly, lots of space to dance - last time I saw her was at Wembley so over 50% of the crowd was seated. CHVRCHES were good at Latitude last year too. Thinking about it - have you tried a festival at all? Latitude in particular is not mega crowded, lots of space to dance rather than get squashed in the pit and lots of non-music stuff (comedy, literature, theatre, ...) Even more OT: Ed loving Sheeran headlining the last night at Glasto. Not even close to the Foos or Radiohead, ugh

It'd be news because getting rid of trident isn't labour policy. He really has to be careful to not come off as planning to ignore that stated policy when in power.

I mean when a politician says "as soon as I can" they generally mean "as soon as I can without getting career endingly savaged over it" which kind of carries implied political acceptability.

Political support is easy come, easy go, and there are no guarantees his support won't start to erode again now we're out of election mode. It's just very annoying when his allies drop him in it like this.

No-one has got anywhere in UK politics in the last two years by attacking Corbyn. 'We need better housing and a well funded fire service, not nuclear bombs.' There, line sorted. I also agree he doesn't want to open splits in the party again, but 'when I can' is non committal enough to dodge that. Zalakwe fucked around with this message at 22:21 on Jun 25, 2017 |

I went to a wedding in Denmark this weekend between an Anglo-German and a Dane raised in Luxembourg, and all the speeches included dunking on Britain for how stupid Brexit is (except for mine because I couldn't work in any good jokes that hadn't already been told by the time I was on). It was a great night and a great wedding, and as it turned out the groom's brother's in-laws were pro-Leave. They lodged a "formal complaint" against the toastmaster before storming off in a huff at 10:30 while the rest of the European melting pot of guests partied til 4 in the morning. It was glorious.

The thing is they already went all-in on attacking Corbyn in the last election, blasting every attack line from every media outlet constantly. Unless something new somehow comes to light all of these attacks are priced-in. Any danger would come from the Tories getting it together, not from the same old tried and failed attack lines against Corbyn.

Photos of stacks of alleged uncounted Leave votes, allegations of voter fraud from EUs voting 20 times, maps showing massive swathes of the country Leave on the front of every tabloid, more UKIP MPs down the road, probably a bigger increase in hate crimes and violence than what we got.

jabby posted:He had an approval rating of -42 a few months ago. Yeah fair enough, but I do think attacking him carries a lot of risk. The Tories credibility is shot while detractors within the party are wary of his supporters, are benefiting from his popularity, have far fewer allies and no objective in sight. He has good will to burn. The worry is that this is his zenith, I wouldn't bet on it though, Brexit is coming. Maybe a better line would have been no one has got rich betting against him in the last two years.

The press didn't take his approval rating down to those depths overnight, they did it through the constant grind of every single line written about him being unrelentingly negative, combined with the refusal to show him in person or report his opinions accurately. We're going back to that now. We get a brief period where his sheer popularity is a story in itself, like with Glastonbury, and then it's day after day smears and lies and misrepresentation. Complacency now is a massive threat, which is what makes it all the more galling when an ally proudly brings up Trident of all loving things. EDIT: In order to not be unrelentingly negative myself, let's just bask in how awesomely Jezza has reversed public opinion: https://twitter.com/britainelects/status/879100890631872512 jabby fucked around with this message at 23:18 on Jun 25, 2017 |
