Labour don't need to wait for a confidence vote to do this. By sheer value of turning up in strong numbers to any and every vote they force the Tory/DUP alliance to also turn up or risk losing. Reports from the Major days of minority government talk about MPs being forced to come in off their sick bed, back from their holiday or miss relatives funerals simply because the government couldn't afford to lose the votes. Minority government is hell on MPs and you can bet they will resent May strongly for it.

One more thing to note about this NHS agency sale. Recruitment media was reporting on Staffline's bid as early as the 22nd of May (http://www.recruiter.co.uk/news/2017/05/staffline-remains-tight-lipped-over-reported-bid-nhs-professionals) and speculation was on going about the sale of the agency as far back as the 4th of April (http://www.recruiter.co.uk/news/2017/04/recruiters-reported-be-among-bidders-nhs-professionals) showing this was all ongoing during the election itself. Noteworthy the only media source that thought it worthy to report on it during the election was Sky News (http://news.sky.com/story/staffline-tables-bid-for-nhs-nurses-agency-amid-privatisation-row-10885313) and even then it was buried in their business section. You would think this would be something that perhaps may have needed coverage during an election where one of the big issues was the future of the NHS.

the thing you have to remember about cats is that we definitely didn't domesticate them to control pests- dogs were domesticated much earlier, and are better mousers and much more useful animals besides. another is that some elements of their "domestication" are actually adaptations to alter our behavior - kittens learn their meowing pitch, and they nearly universally learn to the same pitch of a wailing infant- it evokes the most reaction from humans. my personal favorite theory they, evolutionary speaking, aren't pets - they're parasites. larger ancestors of cats were attracted to human settlements because we attract tons of prey and are filthy, and the gradual process of natural selection meant the cuter and less dangerous specimens thrived over the wilder and more dangerous ones. this is why they're the only pet with innate dignity and also why they're the only truly funny pet- because only they can lose it.

I also find the symbiosis argument quite compelling. Julio Cruz posted:Also it costs a ridiculous amount of money to maintain, which could be better spent in any of a thousand different ways. I think it's a fairly small part of the defence budget, and the rest of the defence budget is arguably worse because we actually use that to kill people whereas Trident, by design, is only used to give people jobs. I've never much bought the money argument.
