I feel like it's gonna go this way: The bill will come to the floor. Lee/Cruz/Johnson faction will propose an amendment that's been pre-cleared behind the scenes that somehow costs money but specifically is designed to gently caress the poor (drug testing or something like that). McConnell has like 100b to work with in that regard. Maybe he'll throw a specific medicaid extension to some of the bluer states ala the Cornhusker Kickback/Gator-Aid for Medicare Advantage in the ACA. McConnell is probably the most politically savvy person in Washington and if there was a problem yo he'll solve it check out the hook while his DJ revolves it

Deep down I am hesitant about my happiness over the bill being dead because 1) when it dies, it means the GOP survive, and most importantly 2) when it dies, if it dies because of a Ted Cruz vote, I have to admit he did a good thing ever in his life (almost certainly for the wrong reasons but still)
