You say this, yet the outcomes aren't much different. The Democrats picked up seats in both chambers of Congress but do not hold a majority in either, and Clinton is not the chief executive not due to lack of enthusiasm among her supporters, but how our country allocates electoral votes. If if I am not mistaken, Labour didn't receive a majority of votes cast either, whereas Clinton did.

Again, our system is loving poo poo and the Clinton campaign wasn't perfect. I just don't understand the desire to solely blame Clinton herself for the loss given that there were so many obvious things outside of her control that affected the outcome. Mass voter suppression first and foremost, then swiftly followed by the Russian influence campaign.

I've read "Shattered" and the Clinton campaign was actually a complete steaming turd from start to finish, run by a candidate mired in self-inflicted and completely avoidable scandal and who failed to deliver any coherent message while surrounded herself by sycophants that were afraid to criticise her.

I measure the success of an individual in an election by how close they are to be able to forming a government. Corbyn is in an infinitely better position than he was before the GE and May, from the looks of things, could be on her last legs.

I'm gonna stop you right here, beause this is dumb. The difference is that Clinton pissed away a comfortable lead from a position where she had most every advantage against a goddamn orange clown surrounded by insane yesmen whereas Corbyn made the biggest gains since 1945 while having the deck stacked as heavily against him as possible. As a result the insane clown run the entire Federal government and can do more or less whatever they want, whereas the Tories are completely hamstrung and will not be able to do much of anything. These are not equivalent situations or outcomes.

Or you could invest in actual IT security instead of rushing into another war against an ephemereal foe?

Yeah that is a sensible idea obviously but it's not a satisfying answer nor a particularly good one. A business can say it's building an invulnerable wall to prevent hackers (and then still get screwed over by poor coding or social engineering hacks) but a state can't guarantee that level of protection for a country unless it threatens to use its state power against aggressors or it takes total control of the internet in the country because there is simply too much difficulty and failure in any other course of action.

Unless they are reigned in by other forces to limit that response (like our reaction to such moves), this is the natural direction that states will go in.

Basically people are getting mad about the internet and we should start thinking, planning and acting as soon as possible.

Well yeah, which is why cyber attacks are starting to be viewed equal to military aggression: because they can be equally as damaging (or used in tandem with the military) and state actors are able and willing to use them.

Doesn't matter that it enrages the EU, and sets fire to the UK economy due to skills shortages, etc (or of course the fact that its utterly loving monstrous and racist): it panders to the racist thumbman brigade and buys a few cheap positive headlines in the Mail in the short term thus keeping them afloat for a while, at least until the tabloids turn on their next target.
