If the rumor that LA is offering multiple years to Thornton is true that's a big pass from me.

It seems insane to me that the Avs are trying to unload Duchene, the dude is great. Did he ask for the trade or was it the Avs FO that was trying to move him for whatever reason.

Duchene looked like a world beater when he was scoring 70 points ... four years ago. The three season since then have kind of taken the shine off for the Avs. 41 points this season. Trading him actually makes a lot of sense in that his rep is probably better than he is and the return could be very legit. He's got two seasons left on this deal and even if he turns it around, it probably won't happen in Colorado.

Duchene's shooting percentage and shot rates have been pretty consistent until last year, the only bad pattern in his points is his rate of assists is steadily declining, which can probably be attributed to spending most of his time centering Matt Nieto and JT Compher. He's 26, I'd say he's as solid a bet as any to continue producing well for a while and I bet his assist and shot numbers tick back up if he starts playing with non-garbage line mates.

Duchene actually had decent possession stats (relatively speaking) for the first time in his career. He managed above 55% CF with Landeskog with 38% d-zone starts. He was dragged down by an awful 43% playing even more d-zone starts with Grigorenko. I am not a coach but I don't entirely understand why one would try to make a checking line out of Duchene and Grigorenko.

It's hard to trade that level of cheap production away, unless you know you have something else coming up to replace it. Jake is about 735k but Sheary is an RFA. It'll be really interesting to see his new contract. He's only 2 years from being a UFA.

Hip Now and Wow! posted:Rumors today were that the Pens were interested in Duchesn again. The talk was a Prospect (or maybe 2, or some draft pick/prospect combination) and Maatta for him. I don't think the horseshoe is big enough for the Pens to pull that off (e- in that form). Which is why they're going to shed a not as good as he once was Dman for a 70 point center to play third line center. CBJSprague24 fucked around with this message at 05:20 on Jun 29, 2017 |

Hip Now and Wow! posted:He hasn't been a 70 point center for 3 years. Currently he is a 41 point center that, if I am not mistaking, has requested to be traded. To be honest I don't think it will happen, but it isn't like they would be trading pocket lint for him. A legitimate prospect, a first rounder, and a young DMan that underperformed last year but has big upside for a young center that under performed last year isn't as lopsided as you make it seem. An overpaid dman, a prospect and the 30th pick isn't actually very much for a first line player but you do you man.

If the stars align Sprong will have a handful of 40 point seasons in his career. That's if everything goes right. He's a good but not amazing prospect. If you can get a legitimate top line forward for him, you make that move in a second. Duchene had just completed a 67 point NHL season at the age Sprong is now. Sprong was ranked 49th among prospects not in the NHL in February. He's like a B+ level type at best. http://www.tsn.ca/test1-1.677389 ThinkTank fucked around with this message at 14:44 on Jun 29, 2017 |
