Throughout the controversy school district officials refused to provide details, citing student privacy.

The family�s attorney, D. Gill Sperlein, said the donated funds will be used to sue the school district for violation of First Amendment rights, due process and continuing to release private information from the boy�s school records. That information includes attendance records that school officials discussed publicly, and sharing documents from the student�s file, namely the video in question, Sperlein said.

�Part of the reason we�re taking a stance, schools have overreached in how they try to control what students say and think. We understand creating a safe space for students to speak, but that doesn�t give schools carte blanche,� Sperlein said.

He said the school went too far and allowed the boy, 17, to be painted as a racist. Sperlein, who specializes in First Amendment cases, said this threatening of free speech has a big impact, and makes people afraid to talk to each other for fear of offending one another.

The controversial video sparked outrage with its alleged depiction of two students as Muslim terrorists and suggestions of lewd conduct, violence and torture.

The boy, his parents and attorney said the video, which was posted on Youtube and social media sites in February, was meant to be a James Bond-like parody.

School officials disqualified the boy, a junior, from participating in student leadership, including his run as associate student body president. He then filed a petition with the state court against the school district in protest.

Despite a judge ruling in favor of the school district, the school board decided to reinstate the boy�s leadership roles. He won the election and will serve as student body president starting this fall.

The actions garnered the attention of students, parents and other community members, some from the Muslim community, who spoke out at a May San Ramon Unified School District meeting. Students also organized a protest during school hours.

Elizabeth Graswich, spokeswoman for the district, said they had no comment on the fundraiser at this time due to both personnel and student privacy.

This is really something that cannot be overstated. By the end of WWII, the US GDP was greater than the rest of the world combined.

Add that to the fact that about half a million able-bodied workers didn't return (obviously nothing compared to what the USSR or even the UK suffered), and the college education and cheap mortgages offered by the GI Bill, and you've got a recipe for these hazily-remembered salad days when workers were treated right because employers had to compete for good workers and then work to retain them and everyone seemed rich by their contemporary standards (house, car, 2.5 kids, etc.).

It sweeps under the rug all of the poo poo that was going on if you weren't a white male, because the only people who harken back to that are the white males who grew up hearing stories of how it was from their parents and grandparents.

They just conveniently leave out the part about how all that success was built on the backs of government welfare programs. loving boomers.
