My dad phoned me about watching the NASCAR in the 70's special. He got all nostalgic upon seeing Bobby Isaac said that was his "Favorite driver" growing up,. Told me about how he missed the 70's era of the sport, and even painted his slot cars/hot wheels like the Petty Superbird apparently as a hobby. I do think this is funny because it counters the narrative NASCAR has that the people outside the south only cared about NASCAR after 1979, etc FuzzySkinner fucked around with this message at 05:30 on Jun 30, 2017 |

VikingSkull posted:I mean, I've posted it before but they ran two NASCAR races literally a bike ride away from where I live Well exactly. It just feels like NASCAR has always been a thing "nationally" if one has some sort of interest in cars. I imagine if you were the sort of person that read stuff like "car and driver", enjoyed slot cars, models, diecasts...whatever. The odds are good that your attention would probably watch stock cars on ABC's "Wide World of Sports" or hit the local short track to see modifieds, etc. I think perhaps the "treating a driver like he was a n NFL franchise" sort of thing came with a wave of fans from the 'burbs in the 90's perhaps? Maybe that's what NASCAR goes over.

I'm cool with him, it just seemed random. Also, I am attending exciting NASCAR Xfinity Series racing tonight, let's go a Spencer Gallagher. My friend flew Allegiant down to get here, so you owe me that much. E- Steady, moderate rain, yet we stay green. CBJSprague24 fucked around with this message at 00:55 on Jul 1, 2017 |
