Always considered myself centrist or liberal but was a "well maybe there are or aren't wmds and we can make things safer for Israel while rescuing the Iraqis from a tyrant" kind of liberal in the early 2000s. Hated bush and loved Obama. Got pushed slowly to the left reading LF but I still believed Obama was this secret progressive, if only the repubs wouldn't get in the way. Thanks to game/weird twitter I followed a lot of leftists and ID pol liberals in the last few years. When most of the liberals went full lefty bashing in the primaries and chapo came around I think it got me over the line. Its a good gateway drug to quickly get to know a lot of cool lefties on twitter (though some later kind of melted down like Fang)

Yea that's more or less my path too. I mean poo poo I was 100% in for the whole "Hillary is the best we can do, slow progress is progress" ride until, ya know, that got busted right up. Then I figured gently caress it if minor, still regressive, half measures are all we have maybe we deserve to lose. It's real fuckin hard to believe in "pragmatic progressives" when they keep losing to guys shouting "IF WE CAN'T HAVE A LAW PUTTING ALL QUEERS AND MUSLIMS ON A ROCKET TO THE SUN THEN WE'LL BURN THIS COUNTRY TO THE GROUND TO TEACH YOU WHO'S BOSS". Maybe we should get in on that "just say what you want to happen and don't bend over at the first resisting you get" train.

In middle school and high school because of bus routes I would go to my grandpa's after school and we'd talk about stuff and he'd tell me about his life. Like when he'd drive women across state lines to get abortions back in the 60s, or getting wiretapped by the Reagan administration for his involvement in the Sanctuary movement, or when he went to Nicaragua to help smuggle people out of the country. Just instilled in me a deep loathing for all things right of the center-left and I self-radicalized from there I guess.

he was pretty much just another hawkish democrat who happened to kind of catch on to progressive rhetoric, but in practice he was very much a useless centrist incrementalist I mean the point of the obstructionist congress is important sure, but he also didn't use his power effectively at all, such as a lack of executive orders or pardons

Either he got consumed by the Blob when he got into national politics, or he never really had a problem with military intervention as long as it's done "right", i.e. with zero risk to American lives (drones, Libya, etc.), or maybe a bit of both. The EO stuff is a mixed bag. He could've also taken a principled stance of trying to kill the imperial presidency left behind by GWB, but he opted to cement it, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad reasons. On the other hand with an intransigent congress, EOs are the only tool you have, and they can be quickly rolled back the moment you lose the White House. Of course even if Obama had made a valiant effort in killing presidential power creep in the crib, Trump would've just brought it back because norms don't matter and the imperial presidency operates within a framework of norms, not laws. The lesson: do whatever it takes, play whatever dirty trick you have, to push through your agenda, because voters don't care. Trump showing that a barely functioning vegetable can sit in the Oval Office and the lights still turn on and hot water still runs are a bigger argument against the imperial presidency than anything Obama could have done.

I think the way to go with the Twitch Stream would be to borrow the Red Letter Media model rather than as a reply to stuff like the Stefan Molyneux stream. It's obvious that at least half of the Chapo crew don't game often / aren't as interested in gaming, but as a way to make a stream where one or two play a game while keeping a more casual conversation between x or y it would be perfect. People obviously log in to watch footage of them looking at a blurry Steven Seagal vid or to watch Micki be walked for a bit, so why not make a more casual avenue for these? Obviously it wouldn't be filled with as much bits, so you'd get something more like the Hegelbon podcast or the guest segments on SFR. And like the RLM streams, someone like Brendan or Virgil would type out a small summary of what went down on the VOD highlight, without much pressure for let's say Matt or Amber to be front and center and have to nod along to twitch chat. Not to mention it's clearly more personality driven than idea driven, as it would be more "Hang out with the Chapo Crew for a bit!" than "Listen to these harebringers of leftism". On the Intercepted podcast, Felix's stance on how a podcast could touch so much people did remind me of something Wolfshirt stated about the Six Feats Under Streams/Let'sPlays, as that people do see podcasts as this conversation with neat people that the listener happens to pop in rather than an audio segment where people just read you something or act out a play (Stuff like The Adventure Zone aside). Plus, having them be less pressured to act out like their usual Chapo roles would mean an audience that likes them outside of the podcast but isn't fond of some of the material can join in. As long as it's not this "We must get ourselves our own reaction to the alt-right" poo poo, I can picture this going rather well!

The comments though, christ I don't envy the person who's gonna have to keep the gaming chuds moderated in there.

Video games are not a niche subgenre, they are a huge industry, rivaling movies. The consumers of video games are standard people, not alt-right 4channers. "Gamer" is not actually a niche subculture. the Mass Effect series didn't drop off in sales after it introduced gay romance options. Tomb Raider games sold better after they changed Lara Croft to have smaller boobs and wear pants. Farcry 5 will sell better than Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash Video games are firmly in the realm of normies
