Spacebump posted:Cuban said that the Mavs would be willing to take on salaries in a trade. In my perfect fictional offseason they get Love out of the Melo trade. It won't happen but a man can dream. If the Cavs make a trade that moves Love instead of getting them a fourth star somehow they're fools. None of the 5 or so guys who move the needle on golden state are available (several of them play for golden state). I'd say the only exchanges that give them more wins on the Warriors without a fourth star are Gobert, Davis, Cousins, Jordan (better inside would be huge, none are available) or a straight improvement at the 2 with a guy who makes Curry unhideable. Butler would have done it, Harden or perhaps Hayward even. Not available though unless what we've heard about Hayward's preferences is wrong. George would have been a good fit but only if you keep Love too. Edit nah Hayward wouldn't cut it. It has to be a defensive improvement on Thompson or a guy who forces to get beat up or have his ankles mounted on Irving's wall every day without being a liability on D and he's not able to guard Curry or Klay effectively tivrlh DeimosRising fucked around with this message at 16:42 on Jul 3, 2017 |

Yeah the Cavs have no moves to make really. Moving Love at this point would be stupid.

Ya, I don't get all the talk of Love to Boston, those two teams shouldn't really want to trade with each other.

Just make Lebron GM, or defacto GM. Yes, we should combine teams with Boston, they can have anyone they want back after this season, and their reward would be possibly the first 3 picks in the draft. Michael Corleone fucked around with this message at 16:58 on Jul 3, 2017 |

Shumpert, Frye, Jefferson, and Felder matches salaries for Carmelo, provides about 5 mil in salary relief to the Knicks now, a further 10 million in 2018, with a Shumpert option for 11 mil for 18-19. It sends the Cavs into the 9th circle of salary cap hell though. The Rockets could maybe get it done with Anderson, their human trade exceptions, and a protected future first (2019?), but the thought of having geezers Anderson and Noah make 38% of the cap is so nasty. e: dolan's a horrible dumbass, but at least he's not pinching pennies during LeBron James' contract year Bush Did Outer Heaven fucked around with this message at 17:00 on Jul 3, 2017 |

Punkin Spunkin posted:Gilbert seems like his own disaster these days & has had his share of comic sans ignominy, plus hey Dolan was a positive influence in recent Knicks events right? He was the one who didn't like Phil openly shopping and disrespecting KP? Dolan is the one who gave Melo an absurd amount of power in this dumb organization and necessitated the whole situation. He doesn't get credit for giving a GM a hamstrung, job, saying he'll be a hands off leader (which he finally realized he ought to do after he's spent two decades loving them up every time he interfered), then going back on his word when the GM fails to succeed at an impossible task. Considering how much Melo disliked the Porzingis pick I kinda don't think Dolan would've even done it without Jackson there to trust the scouts. There's also the report saying Carmelo "chewed out" Porzingis after Kristaps made public statements saying he liked playing the triangle and thought it would work better once the team got more familiar with it, hey rookie you gently caress choose sides between me or the GM. Melo is team cancer and Dolan feeds him. Gilbert managed to get LeBron back after chasing him off, and the Cavs have won a championship despite his incompetence, so he's probably better there. That being said, I would not trade them because Dolan is 62 and Gilbert is 55, and Dolan was an alcoholic for at least 20 years, so Dolan seems more likely to die first.
