Yes. It is pointless to say "but what will the trolls do with it" because they will always find something.

Same for abandoning terms that conservatives have deliberately poisoned.

I'm not calling this the end of the world, I am explaining why this situation is part of a larger trend that is leading to a bad place for the country. I was accused of predicting doomsday scenarios when I predicted the Malheur attacks and the PP attacks as well- and neither of those were actual doomsday predictions. They were accurate reads on the emerging trends within the particualr group of extremists that I am familiar with.

Russia Today is a propaganda front for the Kremlin, and The_Donald has quite a bit more influence than what you are handwaving it away as.

Things do not play out instantly, and memes take time to spread through a populatipon. A few token "serious person" GOP officials offering up some milquetoast words is in no way representative of what the GOP core is thinking. The_Donald is way closer to the GOP base than John McCain is.

Finally, the idea that "bad politics" will somehow prevent a GOP official from supporting politically-convenient extremism is an argument that can only exist if history started sometime around breakfast yesterday. There is nothing in the last five decades of GOP history to support your underlying assumptions here.

That's definitely a fair counterargument. I guess my issue is I find it hard to stomach that at least half the country is made of racist nihilists bent on sowing chaos.

How is it besides the point to shine a light on the media consumption of the president and his social media team? They had to find that gif, which means they were pursuing through pages and pages of anti-semitic and racist materials and decided to share one.

If any other president re-used the words or imagery of someone that had terrible beliefs, what do you think would happen? Remember the meltdown over Jeremiah Wright? How do you think these same people would react if Obama had re-tweeted a black guy beating the poo poo out of a fox news logo?

Words matter and people need to be reminded of this.

Have the people on TD and such given up all pretenses of caring about a democracy and just finally embraced their fetish for Authoritarianism? What CNN did was fine in the context of a free press yet the alt-right is calling for their heads and I am wondering why don't they just finally admit that they desperately want to live under some dictator who will get rid of all the minorities and let them jerk off to anime in public.

it's pretty normal journalistic practice to find someone involved in a story and ask them for comment. it's just that in this case the fact that CNN was able to contact the guy indicated that his anonymity was not secure so he decided to backpedal as hard as he could. CNN is entirely within their rights to publish the dude's identity but they decided not to at his request

where so many alt right shitheads are reading this as a threat just exposes the sheer panic they feel at the idea that they could face irl consequences for spamming reddit with lovely hate speech

They want a democracy but they've been brainwashed into thinking even the milquetoastiest of liberal positions is Communism™ and threatens to create a totalitarian dictatorship if it goes unchallenged. Basically they're a bunch of useful idiots for people who do want a dictatorship, IMO
