The Reichsadler with the VW logo in place of the swastika is ... a thing that was at some point popular with the VW-modding crowd (back when rusty hoods were in style). Put that on a car made by a factory or at least company (pretty sure Ford built both) that made B-17s/B-24s, and I think we've got a winner.

Not an entry, because it wasn't *really* a mismatch, and I couldn't get a picture anyway, but I saw a Blazer yesterday with a Honda sticker in the window. Not a mismatch because it was a Honda Powersports wing logo, not the big H Honda automobiles logo. But I will keep looking.

We just came out of a holiday weekend here in Freedomland, so I'll give it a couple more days and then either relax the requirements or change the challenge wholesale. I really didn't think this would be a difficult one--I see stuff like this all the time. In fact, seeing a "Yeah, it's got a HEMI" sticker on a tiny coupe is what inspired this challenge in the first place.Delivery McGee posted:Put that on a car made by a factory or at least company (pretty sure Ford built both) that made B-17s/B-24s, and I think we've got a winner. And yeah, that would certainly be going the extra 1.61 kilometers, goodness.

Does it count if it's on my own car?! Came this way when I bought it; liked the irony too much to change and it's gotten a bunch of laughs from people. Not -really- pictured: a lot of dents, peeling clearcoat and desert pinstriping. If it counts: post a pic of your car next to some spooky/haunted local history... Haunted mansion? Suicide bridge? Local slaughtering ground? Be sure to post up a bit of good backstory, self-written or wiki cuz I like history!

I hope it counts! I've done a similar challenge kinda lamely and as a history buff with a car being delivered tomorrow, I'd take another run at it.

I'll still make a donation if someone posts a photo of a mismatch they put together specifically for this challenge, so long as the car is in a public place. Just keep your receipt so I'll know how much to give (and I might make a slightly larger contribution than what's on the receipt if it's especially hilarious or took a lot of effort (or both), like if someone strips the badges/emblems off their own vehicle and plasters it with badges/emblems from as many different cars as possible. Use your imagination!)

I might be able to go by here tomorrow on the way home from work tomorrow, if nobody steps up before then. It wasn't firebombed by the KKK, it burned down when being rented out as a warehouse by a local petrochemical company long after it had closed because the schools had been integrated and the pupils were all transferred to the local school district. There is a lil' yappy dog across the street that'll startle the bejesus out of you if you back up to his side of the street to get a wide shot of the ruins, though. *Of course, all hauntings are BS if you don't believe in ghosts, but this one the supposed ghost-generating event didn't actually happen, it's just local legend. Edit again: I've promised my partner I won't, because he's got it sewn up this afternoon, and nobody else should bother trying either, because he's got a location/ghost story everybody has heard of. Disney made a movie based on the story in question. My dad's Kia in front of the Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse and the Van Alen House. I gotta start this off by saying that Tarrytown bastards can eat my rear end Washington Irving was buddies with folks here in the town of Kinderhook, New York, and he stayed here before he went to England and wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. He based many of the characters on local people -- Ichabod himself was based on his good buddy, local schoolteacher Jesse Merwin, Katrina van Tassel was a daughter of the Van Alen family who lived in that little brick house in the background of the above photo, and supposedly Brom Bones was a Van Alstyne -- that family still lives in the area, so I couldn't take a picture of their house or that would be creepy. The story of the Hessian ghost who inspired Brom Bones' prank is also a Kinderhook legend, associated with a particular old cemetery that has a section of Hessian graves, but I forgot how to get to that cemetery and gave up after I found myself going in circles. Additionally, this site in the pictures is itself supposed to be haunted by some sort of phantom who whistles at people when no-one else is around; I didn't get whistled at while I was taking this picture, though. (I have heard a "phantom whistler" while hanging out doing night fishing with a friend of mine who lives on the creek, just through the woods behind this house, but for all I know there might be some kind of local wildlife that makes a noise like a human whistling; I'm not ready to assign it to a ghostly schoolteacher!) When you're basing a ton of characters on real people who live in a real small town, it's just rude to outright state the specific location where they live and thus expose them in all their not-very-flatteringly-depicted glory to all of your readers; Irving namedropped Tarrytown in the introduction to the story, and Tarrytown ran with it, but they're a bunch of lying liars and it's our story not theirs gently caress Tarrytown e: if this gets accepted for the prompt, mine is: a live bird on a car, or a large number of live birds near a car InediblePenguin fucked around with this message at 21:49 on Jul 13, 2017 |

Grackles are the only animal I know that will take a dump, pick up the poo with its mouth, then fly it off to drop it where humans don't want it. Growing up we had a pool in the backyard and the little jerks would spend all day doing this to the railing around it. Yay, what a fun summer activity, swimming while literally surrounded by turds! To be fair, we do have a few college students here who could probably round up enough acquaintances, but otoh, lol Goons don't have any friends amirite? Shall we go for revolution, then? Let's see your car with a historical marker in frame. Those are a thing in most of the US, but any metal plaque/stone carving/building commemorating a historical event on that site is acceptable. See the last photo of InediblePenguin's post for an example, and obviously he's not allowed to use that one again. Edit: Bonus points if it commemorates an actual overthrowing of the previously-legitimate government. InediblePenguin could probably get that one too, being in upstate New York, but it just got dark there, so you've got 12 hours or so. Anybody in St. Petersburg (the Russian one)? And commemorative structures are allowed, it doesn't have to be a plaque -- I'll count the Arc de Triomphe, San Jacinto tower, Alamo, etc. for the bonus, and HMS Victory or any statue of a historical military person on/near a historic battlefield for the main challenge. But a lot of us live away from that sort of thing, which is why I went with the local-history signs initially. Chillbro Baggins fucked around with this message at 02:21 on Jul 22, 2017 |
