Could well be?

It would be successful, no question. He had dual citizenship, dual citizens cannot be parliamentarians, that's it.

The Guardian posted:

The key question [of a previous case] – and one that split the high court bench five to two – was whether either [defendant] had taken “reasonable steps” to renounce their second citizenship.

The court agreed that what was “reasonable” depended on the circumstances of each case. Particularly relevant for Ludlam, should he choose to challenge, is his awareness of past citizenship. The high court held that if an individual believed their past citizenship had been renounced through the process of Australian naturalisation, that should be taken into account.

...

Much has changed since 1992. New Australian citizens are no longer required to renounce foreign allegiances during citizenship ceremonies, instead simply declaring their “loyalty” to Australia.

The wording of the constitution is unambiguous. But it does raise complex and difficult questions. What would happen, for example, if a refugee who had fled political persecution was required to seek renunciation past citizenship from a potentially hostile government?

Or, in Ludlam’s case, what happens when an individual maintains they were genuinely oblivious of a former citizenship?

Thats who I am talking about, the guy who was third on the ticket would make a decent senator, he does a lot of advocacy for people with disabilities, and he has already said that he would rather put the nomimation out to the membership to vote on than just accept it immediately.

fun fact, when I was down in albany I gave serious consideration to running for council as a greens aligned councillor. Diane Evers was going to coach me through the process and give me all the support I needed. At the time I said no, because I was still newish in town and wanted to put down some more roots and get to know more people and the processes better. Fast forward a couple of months, I get ross river fever, break up with my long term partner and give up, going back to Perth. Then she gets elected to the senate.

So, 3.2billion times $0.15 gives $480million.

So, for a small increase in costs (thicker bags) Woolworths will now be making almost half a billion dollars a year off something they previously gave away for free.

(They'll move a lot less than 3.2 billion if they're not free though)

I have also given strong consideration, along with a few friends, to running as an independent and appeal to fringe crazies and then just vote with the greens if I get elected. The left needs more small parties to counteract the right wing loonies that seem to pop up everywhere. I dont think I could handle the public scrutiny though.

Oh right I thought we were talking about getting stuff done/heard/debated. In which case yes, I would argue that people watching it is the point.

If it's a cushy retirement plan you're after then knock yourself out.

That's why Dr Verghese's study found that encouraging people to buy reusable bags without making sure these bags actually get reused an adequate number of times results in a worse result for the environment overall.
As an example, if polypropylene bags (those green bags that you can buy at the supermarket) are only used 52 times then their impact on global warming is actually greater than that of single-use plastic bags.
How many uses should you be getting out of reusable bags? The study from Dr Verghese puts the figure at 104 — that's weekly for two years.

I guess my Question is are we better served by having 9 departments of roads / transport, health, education, police, etc, or would just the 1 be more efficient.

Even if it was on a case by case basis, would some things be better adminsitwred at a federal level than a state level.

I think some things would be better off centralised, like education, but I dont think something like road and rail planning/funding would work if it was just someone from sydney deciding for the whole nation.
