You can't make jobs out of thin air.

Despera posted:A factory or call center that supplies decent wages is going to be of course heavily subsidized. They bought the lies that the coal industry fed them. If they want to live with that choice im going to mock them. Why would a call center in WV need to be heavily subsidied but a call center in TX or CA would not? Mocking people for being foolishly born somewhere where companies have massive power and have crippled local communities is classist as gently caress. Remember, a minority of West Virginians voted for Trump.

There are people that aren't poor in WV you know, and they are the ones making the lovely decisions more than the poor people are, considering the working poor don't vote. Trabisnikof posted:My answer? Is recognize that the Left and the Democratic Party has failed them rather than they've failed the party. We need to do more to recognize why "job retraining" wasn't compelling to them. "The Left" did them fine, Sanders had overwhelming support among among people not made of dust, ironically majority women support despite the sexist liberal slander born out of defense of a campaign built on ignoring the history of a candidate who's entire history was stomping on every group the DNC propped her up as a folk hero of. Trump is a unflushed bowel movement that's nothing more a stomach churning result of a system everyone sees as fundamentally broken where complete disillusionment and the excitement of potential violent disturbance is the closest to engaged a popular candidate gets when any attempt at reform is stymied. How many of the same people in this forum chanting America is center-right, we can't raise taxes, its perpetually 1991, aren't emblematic of the cosmopolitan attitude that sees an intolerable status quo as an acceptable punishment for the uncouth tribalism of the peasants. Trump winning was for the best if it doesn't kill everyone. Hillary was an awful nightmare of a candidate and the truth of 2016's electoral importance in the long run is sobering realization that Obama was a conjob to prevent people noticing. Liberal isn't the most left wing position in America, and people can even organize around that. For all the constant references to the southern strategy, to anybody who thought the Goldman Sachs guy in Georgia was going to win: are you aware the southern Democrats are dead? Are there somehow people here not aware of this? The south is never going to go blue because the south is literally a bunch of ethnic mafias where resources are hoarded by a small group of white people who also run every aspect of the law in a society based around a caste. HSBC is never going to be prosecuted, Rahm Emmanuel probably knows a thing or two about police black sites. Trump isn't that bad as far as deranged gangsters go. Sort of. As of Citizens United, we're basically tumbling into a a mafia state, Trump is only the FIRST. Next up is the Rock or the Facebook administration, might even start the Farmville Bureau. This is the new normal. Every election is going to be a Republican criminal/Entertainment celebrity, and because all the big money donors will go for the sane liberal candidate promising to never raise taxes, every popular candidate is going to crushed by big donors, and the GOP bolstered by fronts for the mafia will appeal hard enough to white ethnic nationalists in the south to win. 2020 is just going to be cast members from the Jersey Shore and the OC running.

Trabisnikof posted:Why would a call center in WV need to be heavily subsidied but a call center in TX or CA would not? Call centers, those that are still Stateside, tend to be located in Texas and California because of the weather (or more precisely lack thereof) or Utah because whatever else can be said about them, Mormons tend to be fluent in different languages because they like to spread their poisonous beliefs err I mean do missionary stuff. West Virginia unfortunately is going to have all the inclement weather issues of ice and snow as well as a lack of the telecommunications infrastructure that call centers need. Seriously though, literally giving them money is the answer, ultimately it's the only answer for every one in the long run.

A source familiar with the circumstances told CNN there were at least two other people in the room as well, a translator and a representative of the Russian family who had asked Goldstone to set up the meeting.
