A two-year view of Lazar misses the problem last year: he was on the worst line in the NHL with Chris Neil and Chris Kelly. The worst line in hockey.

Sens also played Matt Puempel with those two, then let him go for nothing. He's not a great player, but both of these guys are a thousand times better than Chris Neil, age 405.
Lazar's stats, as bad as they were, plummeted away from Neil while Neil away from Lazar had regular 4th line numbers. He was legitimately the worst performer on that line. The year before he got a fair amount of time with Pageau and dragged him down considerably. He also was very bad in the AHL this year.

He got a ton of leadership talk, including eventually becoming captain of Canada in the World Juniors and all the local media talking about him as our future captain before he was a regular even with Karlsson here. He also was supposed to be a good defender and kill penalties, but man did that ever pan out.

NY sports media are mostly a bunch of bozos when it comes to hockey, especially since Gorton took over and runs a tight front office. Brooks is an old grump, Cyrgalis is a snarky hack, and somehow Zipay and Staple never managed to get any connections to the Rangers despite Newsday being owned by them for years. All of them have been pretty sloppy in their reporting recently, though, but no hit pieces or wild trade speculation.

Zipay never got any connections probably because I'm sure everyone in the entire league, let alone the Garden, is aware that he's the world's biggest dink

I'm so loving glad that bozo Lawless is out of Winnipeg and going to Vegas. The amount of times I heard him get pretty basic NHL rules wrong was mind boggling. Maybe hiring a football insider that knows nothing about hockey was a bad idea?

Playoffs are no big deal,
don't have a crap attack.
I was talking to a friend last night who played hockey with some dude who is the personal trainer of some hockey players during the summer. My friend told me that apparently Seguin drivers a Ferrari with pylons in the car, so that when he parks it, he just puts the pylons around the car.

I don't care if this is not true, but I thought it was hilarious.

Also, we have been completely remodeling our basement so that I can put my Penguin Shrine back up. It's almost complete so we put something in the room to see how the colors worked and such. At the start of today the Flyers had three remaining RFA’s left to sign, that number can now be cut down to zero. Alex Lyon, Anthony Stolarz and Cole Bardreau have all agree to contracts with the team.

Stolarz and Lyon, who both saw action with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms have both signed one year, two-way deals. (Details on money are not available at this time.) Lyon spent the majority of the season as the Phantoms starter playing in 47 games, winning 27 of the contests. He posted a 2.74 GAA and .912 SV%. With his first pro season under his belt, Lyon will look once again to take the reigns of the Phantoms and lead them to their first back-to-back playoff appearances since the team last did so in 07/08-08/09. In a crowded pool of goalie prospects, it will be tough for Lyon to truly stand out, but don’t write him off.

It is important to note that with both goalies signing one year deals, this opens up the possibility of Felix Sandstrom coming over from Sweden next season. Also Carter Hart will be able to join the AHL squad next year, having finished up his junior career with the Everett Silvertips.

They're at least approaching it better than they historically have. My one annoyance is that they're completely committed to the 1A/1B tandem thing (which is part of what drove Steve Mason off) and I don't think taht's ever been shown to really work well.
