I've heard like none of that on War Nerd, it's honestly been a lot of very good poo poo about historical wars with some commentary on modern happenings that seems good to me?

Isn't war nerd the one with the dude who went to Russia so he could be a professional rapist?

edit: yup.

quote:

When I went back into the TV room, Andy pulled me aside with a worried grin on his face. 'Dude do you realize...do you know how old that Natasha is?' he said.

"'Sixteen?'

"'No! No, she's fif-teen. Fif-teen.' Right then my pervometer needle hit the red. I had to have her, even if she was homely."

After they do it, she tells him she has a three-month-old baby.

"It was hard to imagine that Natasha had squatted out a baby," Ames writes. "Her oval office was as tight as a cat's rear end....I'd slept with mothers before--they're a lot wider. Sex with them is like probing a straw in a mildew-lined German beer mug."

Uhh Yeah Dude is the best podcast because it's a pure expression of this country's dumb brokenness through a non-political lens and also Seth and Jah are real good together.

And if you liked the terrible advice column section of last week's Chapo, UYD regularly delves into the more insane side of advice

Dolan also has pretty much dropped the character at this point, and it's more just a podcast about history and foreign affairs. Although, it's worth going back to some of his old stuff, because it's hilarious and he's a fantastic writer.

Gary Brecher posted:

Clancy was born in 1947. So he was 20 years old in 1967. Good age to go to Vietnam. Did you ever hear about Clancy serving in Nam? No, you didn’t. That’s because he spent the war at a safe little Catholic college in Maryland, making sure he had a deferment. “Hail Mary full of grace/Keep me far from Charlie’s place!”

I was born in 1965. Nam was over before I got my first pubes. I’d’ve gone. I’m not saying I’d’ve been a good soldier. I’d’ve sucked — but I’d’ve gone. And died. It probably sounds like bragging but it’s not. I know how I’d’ve died, some dumb way like stepping on a mine. Entrails dragging in a rice paddy. All the cool dudes in the squad laughing at me, listening to Hendrix, passing around a joint while I bled out. But I wouldn’t’ve spent the war hiding out at Loyola Maryland.

That’s the worst part: Maryland! The stupid gently caress didn’t even have the sense to buy a van and head for SF and the hippie chicks like the smart draftdodgers all did. He spent the sixties studying accounting. So he’s not just chickenshit, he’s stupid.

Clancy divorced his wife Wanda for a 20-year-old groupie. Left ol’ Wanda and their four kids and never looked back.

I don’t have that kind of temptation. Not a lot of 20-year-old girls hang around me. Even the fat Mexican ladies at Safeway flinch when they pass me my plastic bags. The only girls I get to see naked are old whores pretending to get whipped on webites like Slave Farm, where they use lipstick streaks on the rear end-cheeks to look like stripes from a riding crop.

So I mean it when I pray for war. Clancy doesn’t.

Was referenced a lot in early Chapo episodes as well, so the guys clearly listen to him. Also, the income from the podcast is literally keeping Dolan alive, because he is pretty much the least employable guy ever, and was run out of the last country that he and his wife tried to settle down in.

Something that's stuck with me for awhile is Zuckerberg's remark that "There are going to be trillionaires, and we need to get used to that idea."

That feels like a pretty good place to draw a line. The idea of single individuals amassing that much wealth (and power) makes me feel a little crazy.

The unquestioned assumption in Zuckerberg's statement is that technological progress is impossible if individuals aren't free to amass that much wealth--despite the progress the U.S. made when marginal tax rates were much, much, much higher than they are now.

This is the sort of Crackpot Realism that drives me crazy. (You know, the kind that offers zero evidence in its favour and is easily countered with history.)

Also, silicon valley in a vacuum would not innovate poo poo. It's all a bunch of idiots throwing venture capital into a pit of grifters, hoping the next juicero becomes the next snapchat. All the really useful stuff comes out of public sector research from universities, which in turn is going for its own version of short-termism.

It's very telling that they think disrupting existing institutions is somehow automatically a good thing.

Maybe we can sell socialism to Silicon Valley by tell them it's disrupting disruption. (Or would that just be assassinating your business rivals?)
