Yeah De'Andre Johnson is there and he seems to be doing really well, so that's good to see. Any word on him, Samurai Fooches?

Just started Last Chance U myself. Tech 2015 MLB went to EMCC last year and is gonna be back at Tech this year. Strange situation: arrested for breaking into his drug dealer's house, stealing his safe which was filled with guns, then trying to sell the guns to an undercover cop.

I get this. I'm interested in if he actually changes. Opens the show saying that he watched himself and said, "I suck."

I'm only halfway into the first episode but this season will seem to focus on him trying to change as a person and everyone adjusting to the fame the show brought them. Worth a watch to see if he changed or stayed the same.

I don't think you can play more than one division away from yourself period. FBS can schedule FCS who can schedule DII who can schedule DIII who can schedule NAIA. JUCO is kind of its own level period, I believe they only play themselves.

I think an NCAA team can play whatever other teams they want, but any matchups that aren't sanctioned by the NCAA (and playing a team that's not even in the NCAA is definitely not sanctioned for D1 schools) don't count for the purpose of statistics or wins for bowl eligibility.

I wouldn't mind seeing Whitewater or Mt Union play a DI school for shits and giggles, but since it wouldn't be official, I can guess why that doesn't happen :smith:

(I know UW-Madison Basketball will invite a DIII Wisconsin school each year for an exhibition game at the Kohl Center)

Could an elite high school team compete with a bad DIII team? Or a bad JUCO? As always with these theoretical matchups, it's about the worst player on the field, but I can't help but think something like a peak Southlake Carroll is so loaded with 5 star talent that they could conceivably have six or eight of the best players on the field and overwhelm somebody really lovely.

The former, absolutely. You ever see University of Rochester play? Oh god.

The latter, probably not. Maaaaybe one of those teams that recruits and stockpiles talent in high school, like St. Thomas Aquinas or IMG Academy, but I wouldn't hold my breath

A bad DIII maybe but not a JUCO, those are typically filled with kids who at the very least are a couple years older, bigger, more experienced, etc. JUCOs exist to either get former scholarship kids back on or to get kids who maybe had bad grades but ability or who just needed an extra year or two to develop, they're littered with talent that goes anywhere from DII to high-level FBS schools.

As a former bad DIII football player I think I can authoritatively say that a good high school team would destroy a bad DIII team. Most of DIII is basically just okayish high school players who liked being on a team.

No athletic scholarships at DIII level, so it's a team full of walk-ons essentially.

But I dunno, they'd still probably be older and bigger than the high schoolers.

Yeah, basically. The past year and a half with all this NCAA stuff has made some quality reading over at EliteDawgs. Y'all don't understand how seriously some folks take the Egg Bowl considering it's basically meaningless on a national scale year-in and year-out. Every time something new would drop with the NCAA thing ED becomes the most "vindicated" forum on the net.

Substitute Freeze for "Any successful coach at a D-I program" and boom, you have JoePa, Briles, etc.

I can only imagine the epic meltdowns that would happen and the complete and under denial of any evidence if something came out about Saban on a similar level.

e: it's also not limited to CFB (see Belichick), or football in general. A successful coach will easily get a cult of personality going in regards to their team's fanbase, and to that fanbase that coach can do no wrong, even when presented evidence to the contrary. The only way to get the fanbase to turn on someone like that is if the team starts to suck.

Here's a good article that shows how crazy the NCAA is:

http://tennessee.247sports.com/Arti...esseeVolunteers

They talk about recent "violations" that Tennessee has self-reported on and how small they are.

quote:

Description: During an Orange Carpet Day in June 2015, Tennessee provided materials for recruits do make their own credentials. This was deemed not to be a bonafide credential, but an impermissible personalized recruiting aide because the card-stock was larger than a typical credential and exceeded the permissible size (8.5” x 11”) for general correspondence. The Vols also had “Orange Carpet Day” signage in areas where recruits checked in for the event.

Action: Per the NCAA, Tennessee “should be required to reduce evaluation days for the spring of 2017 by four (from 168 to 164).” Tennessee’s compliance office conducted rules education with football staff and made appropriate changes and the SEC accepted the Vols’ actions without imposing additional penalties.

The best part about this is that you can occasionally get awesome "Crowd turns against Ceausescu" moments, like when Lane Kiffin snuck out of Tennessee in the dead of night and students hung him in effigy and nearly torched the campus.
