If there's any Soundboxing buddies still lurking around in this thread, I'd be eternally grateful if someone could make a beatmap for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyuY0GWqVKE Also I've finally found a Medium project I'm excited to work on after a few false starts. It won't be anything crazy good but I'm having a lot of fun experimenting, I'll post the results when I'm done sometime.

Flyinside FSX doesn't but I'm pretty sure that has something to do with needing admin privileges.

Oh man, how can I buy that faux leather replacement that on the rifts in the new pack? I hate the lovely foam. I know the surround just pops off, I clean it fairly often and the glue holding the foam to the plastic is coming undone.

I hate the lovely foam. Well, oculus released the CAD files for the "facial interface" so some places have made 3rd party ones. However I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them sold officially as replacements, along with the replacement cords, ear buds, remotes, etc they already sell, when the new bundle starts coming out. edit 2: GutBomb posted:I couldn't get steam vr to show up in there as an app but all of my vr games in steam are working fine. So these Cable Matters USB 3.0 passive extension cables I got don't reliably provide 3.0 connectivity to these Rift sensors. Which cables should I get? I got these because they were about 10ft/3m, and I can't really go shorter. e: Would using an active cable like this introduce any issues? This is the cable I used so I can guarantee it works (monoprice is also the same brand as the active extension cable they give you with a 3rd sensor). I've also seen a lot of people use the same one you linked so I don't see any problem with it. I've even seen a 10m cable matters active 3.0 cable listed as working for folks. EDIT: This might be useful. Its a list of various extension cables people have tried out and confirmed work fine. Tom Guycot fucked around with this message at 08:18 on Jul 26, 2017 |

The Bigscreen cinema update is here and it's a pretty great movie theater environment. Way better way to watch movies/tv shows than the smaller home theater environments they had before. Love that there are fake AI heads in the theater that look around at the screen, too.

I don't notice my standard interface + thin foam replacement creaking and I've had mine for about 4 months now. The plastic isn't quite the same density/material as the stock but it's not really a problem. Also, the thin foam does give you a little bit higher FOV.

As a new Rift owner should I feel comfortable buying from the Occulus store given the current sales or should I wait and buy the games from Steam?

Fight! For your kite! posted:As a new Rift owner should I feel comfortable buying from the Occulus store given the current sales or should I wait and buy the games from Steam? As for games that are on both, I'd check their Steam forums to see if your Steam friends list is what's used for multiplayer. I don't have any friends on Oculus, so that would suck if I bought one that doesn't support cross-play with all headset users. Also, I think I heard that Oculus doesn't keep your saves if you delete the game from your HDD, while Steam has Cloud Saves, so that's a definite plus in Steam's favor...

Fight! For your kite! posted:As a new Rift owner should I feel comfortable buying from the Occulus store given the current sales or should I wait and buy the games from Steam? Action pack is bad, you'll play fantastic contraption once and never load it up again, some people like wilson's heart but superhot is honestly the only game worth buying in that bundle Supper pack is bad, I expect you to die is a fairly fun 4 hour experience, the climb is OK, but there's no reason to ever play raw data when you get robo recall for free, and sports bar vr is just dumb Explore pack is bad, everest VR is just a movie, SPT is the same price and you can't get unspoken on steam. I buy everything I can on steam, but honestly it doesn't matter that much because how much am I really going to be playing launch-quality games in the future? Already games like fantastic contraption and job simulator seem quaint & trite; development is moving very fast so it's unlikely I'll ever go back and replay any of the games I bought because there's going to be a ton of newer, better stuff that I can spend my time on. Fight! For your kite! posted:As a new Rift owner should I feel comfortable buying from the Occulus store given the current sales or should I wait and buy the games from Steam? I bought Elite: Dangerous on steam and it worked the first time but every subsequent launch it wouldn't work with the rift and insisted on using my monitor instead and HMD was not an available choice in the game settings. I exported my steam key and converted it to an oculus home key and re-downloaded it through the oculus store and it worked great. I think there is more Rift specific QC on apps bought in the oculus store and versions of things available there seem to match the version currently available on steam.

You can buy from wherever you want and can feel comfortable buying from Oculus Home. I kind of like putting on my headset and having all my games listed in Home right there, since it pops up anytime I put on my headset, but if a game is MP focused and on Steam, they will likely use Steamworks servers for the MP matching which means you will have a larger playerbase if you get it on Steam, although more and more VR games are going crossplay now. The downside of buying from Oculus Home is as of right now they only support the Rift so in the future if you get a new headset that doesn't work with Home, you might be out of luck playing any games from there on your new headset. That doesn't really bother me, because I don't plan on selling my Rift and honestly I don't see myself coming back to a lot if any of these VR games 2-3-4 years from now anyway.

I'm setting up a roomscale area in my unfinished murder basement. I have about a 128"-wide nook (technically the underside of the kitchen bumpout) that I'd like to put my Rift sensors in. It's about 9ft to the ceiling. I'd much rather not drill into the walls, as they're actually bare insulation (murder basement, remember?). What do you think my best options would be? I was thinking about getting a contractor pole to span the 128" distance from wall to wall, and use pressure against each wall to keep it firmly placed. Then I could use clamps to mount the sensors. Unfortunately, a pole long enough to do that is a little expensive (50 bucks on Amazon). I could also get two shorter poles and go from ceiling to wall, which saves about ten bucks. Any other ideas?

It's been mentioned a bunch in the past few pages but adding a steamVR shortcut to home makes the experience essentially seamless. I personally don't really care one way or the other - nice to have the occasional exclusive and good qc on the Oculus store, steam generally has better deals, faster update cycle and of course better community.

Yeah, but they're in from the edges of the nook by about a foot each, and the outer studs are doubled up. I'd need a clamp that can do 4" at minimum.
