Post? What post? Oh wow.
I had nothing to do with THAT.
So a group of grass-roots organizations, including Our Revolution, have started to organize together and have put forward what they're calling The People's Platform:

quote:

If Democrats want to win in 2018 and beyond, we need to start by supporting legislation that addresses the real issues facing everyday Americans. Sign our petition to show your support for a legislative agenda that puts people first. We will be delivering your petitions to the Democratic National Committee on July 25th. Join us as we organize for a #PeoplesPlatform!

...

Democrats in Congress must lay out a bold vision for how we create a country that works for everyone--not the just the very wealthy. In the wealthiest nation on earth, each and every American family should have the basic things they need to thrive. We’ll keep fighting until everyone has access to healthcare, free college tuition, a livable planet, and a job that pays a living wage.

...

Join us as we urge House Democrats to support:

Medicare for All: H.R. 676 Medicare For All Act

Free College Tuition: H.R. 1880 College for All Act of 2017

Worker Rights: H.R.15 - Raise the Wage Act

Women’s Rights: H.R.771 - Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH Woman) Act of 2017

Voting Rights: H.R. 2840 - Automatic Voter Registration Act

Environmental Justice: Climate Change Bill - Renewable Energy (More details soon!)

Criminal Justice and Immigrant Rights: H.R. 3227 - Justice is Not For Sale Act of 2017

Taxing Wall Street: H.R. 1144 - Inclusive Prosperity Act

The status quo isn’t working. This summer, let’s work together to get House Democrats to back our #PeoplesPlatform.

The biggest things that come to mind that are missing from that platform are 1.just flat-out increasing the amount of money people receive through welfare (in its various forms) and reverting the changes from the 90's and 2. something greatly increasing taxes (though maybe that's included as the funding source for some of those bills?).

I would go as far as to say that the first of those is more important than stuff like free college, though obviously it's good as well.

Since a big part of this thread is immune to irony: the thread only talks about slaves when it's a convenient hobby horse. Of course if actual minorities were to come in and talk about their concerns let alone why they choose to vote rather than just whine on a podcast, suddenly a great mass of white dudes would have a lot of opinions about identity politics that they'd need to express.

I mean, quite a few minority posters of every group has shown up in Condiv's threads, and in the Suck Zone, and nobody has been unwilling to talk to them about any issues they bring up. It's just that there's a divide between "here's my opinion on what black americans need done legislatively" and "even though we have video proof that he ceded the mic to BLM a Black website wrote he fought them, so we must believe that"*

well, this is the thread for discussing democrats. i agree, talking about how slavery is enabled by capitalism, and capitalists like trump and hillary make use of slaves all the time is good. problem is that this thread is mainly for discussing the democratic party so trump being poo poo isn't really germane to the discussion unless he becomes a democrat or allies himself with democrats

that being said, i'm glad you brought up slavery and capitalists, cause the sweatshops hillary sponsored in haiti with relief funds are hotbeds of slavery!

BOOP

The problem with IDpol is that there are two nearly entirely alien versions of it. The first says, hey America is hosed up, racist, and bullshit and past solutions were hosed up, racist, and bullshit so we need to keep that in mind and have people who are impacted by said hosed-up-ness to have power and agency in the process of a better solution so we don't do that again. The other says that, well I personally benefit from the world as is, and past changes have been racist, so the only solution is to let the current hosed up, racist, and bullshit capitalist system continue to grind vast swaths of humanity under its treads until civilization as we know ends in ecological collapse. Oh and also if you disagree with me and claim to be a minority, I'm blocking you.

why should i have to answer for NFS' arguments wrt to trump? my post makes it fairly clear that i think trump does own slaves, as does every capitalist.

I don't know if I'd even give them credit for social justice, given actually addressing such issues (particularly in regards to rectifying the impact of racism) would inevitably require significant government spending, which is basically out of the question for liberals.

Liberals are (sometimes, if you're lucky enough to not go to prison or something) good about ending/fixing laws that are explicitly racist, but they're terrible at actually doing anything to offset the effects of systemic racism. As much as liberals like to (rightfully) bag on Sanders for his answer to that reparations question, they sure as hell aren't offering any sort of reparations themselves either.
