Except said lovely app decided it was time to update the firmware RIGHT NOW before allowing more light switch operations.

I don't understand why it doesn't turn off while updating. E: no, that'd be worse if it were the only light in the room. on is just annoying, off could be dangerous if you were idiot enough to make a Hue critical to your life

yeah, I have software controllable light switches but the software part is secondary to their function as a light switch, which they maintain in the case of the network being totally severed

Interesting. The Dutch police opened a page on their website where you can enter your e-mail address to find out if it was in a compromised database, very similar to haveibeenpwned.com Except, when you do so, it tells you the system will send a mail to that address with tips on how to secure it again, if it appears in their list. If it doesn't, they won't send you a mail. I suppose that's a way to prevent people from seeing whether e-mail addresses that aren't theirs have been 'pwned'.
